OEM stators

Good find Steve, you cant even buy the stator on its own from BMW, Im led to believe our GS's (2013 on), aren't as susceptible to stator burn out as the earlier ones?

Good find - was quoted £608 by dealer as they only sell a kit with the flywheel etc in the UK.

This you can buy from your local dealer singularly - £101 as of last week. MOSFET or series territory perhaps...

Best,

S

Fuck me, now he tells me :blast

.... I'd have waited five years before buying one if I'd only known that :augie

Really useful info, thank you. Unfortunately for me, my 800 is a 2012. I had a reg/rectifier failure on my previous 2009 bike at about 35,000, but fortunately it didn't take anything else with it. Wondering if a pre-emptive change might be in order? Current bike has done 33,000 miles.

If it ain't broke don't 'fix it' :augie

Yours might go forever, you might replace it with one not as good :nenau

I'm around the 50k mark on my 09 so i don't think there's any hard and fast rule. I believe they changed the stator / flywheel / RR setup at some point after i got mine as all the part numbers changed however I'm not sure when. If you're concerned about your charging system a voltmeter may be an idea. My enquiries into the whole stator / RR system started when i noticed sometimes my HID didn't fire first time. Voltmeter going in this weekend.

Best,

S

You worry too much :nenau

Ride it until the wheels come off ... THEN fix it :D

Now excepting offers on a 125,000(ish) mile ex-courier 09 F800GS. Recent chain & sprockets. Bike is currently located in Harrow awaiting AA (failed stator AGAIN). Later to be found at the municiple dump, Milford Surrey.
Engine is otherwise brilliant - but that's Rotax for you.

Good one ... best of luck with it :thumb

I'm clearly out of the running for the highest mileage F800GS NOW :nenau

That one will do, I mounted another ElectroSports and cheaper one last year on my 2010 F800GS. The stator is the same but the cableplug and adapter are different.

I indeed paid 119,- euro for it and its fits like the OEM and I allready drove about 13K km's (7K miles) with in without any problems!

I also did a rewindjob (complete revision) which costed me about 230,- euro.
It's my spare stator for my longer trips :D
