Off Road boots and 1200 gearchange

Bought some great Alpinestar off road boots from a member on this site and they fit just fine, the only problem is I can't change gear with them. Is it just a case of adjusting the gear lever up on the spindle to accomodate the heavier boots or should I be lowering the Fastaway footpegs to the lower setting? Standard pegs would be easier due to thier size. Or is it a case of trying/combining both? I also have a pair of Daytona boots for everyday wear and still want to use these as they are super comfortable but a lot lighter. So as you see if I go all the way and adjust for off road then its unlikely to be easy for the Daytona boots.

I have to adjust my gear lever to accomodate MX boots, and have yet to find a happy medium between them and my normal boots. My solution was a Wunderlich adjustable lever, which gives that extra bit of adjustment. I bought a new pair of Tech 8s from the Dirt bike show, and as they wouldn't fit in my panniers as easily as my normal boots, I wore them to ride home. Brand new, super stiff, non worn in boots, and my pillion needed to be home so didn't wait to adjust the lever. Nightmare of missed up-shifts and jerky movements!

Big boots work well with the 1200

First you need to adjust the gear leaver 'start with one notch up'. you have the option of the lower setting on the Fastways, which might be useful.
NN, TT, etc do a gear leaver extension. This fits over the leaver rubber making it longer and therefore easier to use with the stiffer MX boots.

Be assured too: The MX boots will loosen up with use. Soon you'll wonder why you ever bought the Daytonas.

Try the wunderlich adjustable gear lever - not cheap but it does solve the problem.

Thanks folks, must admit I had been meaning to adjust the lever anyway as when standing on the pegs off road it can be difficult to click the lever up. So guess I'll start there and then progress a couple of notches and as a last resort go for the low setting on the Fastways. I wouldn't mind if I had big feet but only size 8's. Maybe i'll look at the adjustable levers too.

I'm the same as you - I use Daytonas for road work and Sidi Crossfires for off road. I use the Daytona's as they are waterproof, lighter and easier to get on and off, although the Cross Fires are very comfortable. I use size 43/44 boots, and the only way I could get the right position for the gear lever for both sets of boots was to use an adjustable one - btw, I also have Fastway pegs, in the low position.

Also, I've seen a few GS's that have been down that have bent/broken the gear lever, the TT and Wunderlich ones have bendy bits at the end. The Wunderlich one is billet ally, very nice and very strong - but twice the price of the TT one,which you could bend back into shape if needed.

same problem with alpinestars tech 3's,
i found leaving the the boots in a bucket of water overnight,made them more flexiable,also adjusting the gear shift up the way.
