off roadin'

Steptoe, that looks brilliant. If I can find some offroad tyres and some decent boots, you can count me in for the next ride. I'm a complete beginner offroad, but it's about time I got my bike dirty :thumb2

Would the boots be totally unsuitable? I do realise that it's well outwith their design spec!
It's a bit of greenlaning not a Motox race :)

Any boots with good ankle protection will do - most injuries I have seen have been caused by being trapped under the cylinder or whatever in a low speed topple over or from "dabbing" on uneven ground.

Really only two thing to remember; keep your toes on the pegs with heels pointing out rather than having toes pointing out and getting caught on ruts, grass, branches etc and if the bike is going over - step off.

That's fine. I don't want to break my leg again...I had an ER-5 at the time I broke my leg (crashing it). I then got the 650 from Vines of Guildford (ex-offroad school job).

So the bike is used to falling over then...........

:D

Any idea if what they are planning for the beginner run actually needs off-road knobbly tyres?

If it's anything like what we had last week at the 'Hog Raost'....you'll be fine- would be nice to meet up again..........:thumb

.

Thats summed up precisely, imagine riding around a garden path and you'll be thinking along the right lines.

Hope thats also a volunteer to help for the day again Clive :thumb

We had two broken ankles on one of the early beginners days :blast, but we've refined it a bit since then.
There's nearly always a choice of another route if you think it's too difficult, but it's a begineers day so it'll be easy -

Talking of footwear, on one trip Mr Tickle wore a pair of trainers and T shirt while going up and down wet chalky hills.

I've worn just a pair of timberland boots until the sole got torn off while going thru a thick hedge:blast

This is the next stage up from beginners :D

You won't be doing any of this, well i won't be, but i'll gladly watch if you think you'd like to. :bounce1

This is the type of riding you'll be doing.

Water optional :thumb

:D

It tells me it doesn't want to continue in that vein though. Naturally when I sell it I will have replaced all the panels and 'two careful previous owners'...:hide

OK depends on what date

Also the ADV Rider in one Sepetember is kind of near my Mum's any idea if there's are a similar style for novice riders?

Count me in on this Neil, just depends when you're going. :thumb I'm away from the end of July to mid Aug....:D

me too, me too. I'll be up for some of this...:bounce1

Just hope I can get one free weekend soon. I'm going stir crazy not getting out for a weekend ride..

Plain Day

Steptoe if I've recovered from my recent off when you decide to do this I'm up for it. Airhead on Tourances ok ?

Date dependant I could well be up for this. I'm far from good but I have some off road experience, and own a xchallenge to boot.

I've had the GSA off road a couple of times but an off in a rut while getting a bit carried away has knocked my confidence on the bigger bike. (I looked down while thinking "don't look down, don't look down...ahhh feck you kn*bber this is gonna smart" and it did :o )

The Adv Rider one is novice-friendly, that's the main aim of having it. There will be runs of varying difficulty and you will be explicitly shown how to tackle things that will challenge you. Off-roading on Salisbury Plain is as easy as it gets. Mid-Wales is generally trickier.
