I had a look at the website and in a nutshell I would say that there are NO green lanes in Scotland......................

Correct................... :D

I checked with the Trail Riders Fellowsip & the Green Lanes Society and because of the Scottish 'right of way' law, they don't even have representation here in Scotland.

The quest continues...............:moped:

Feb issue of Bike magazine they did a 1150 Adv / Hona XL1000 Varadero up in Scotland;

Rights of way in Scotland don't come under the same rules as in England, so we study our Odrnance Survey map of the area and make a call to check things with Lochaber MCC. Route ocnfirmed we set out to ride the old military road from Fort William to Kinlochleven, a part of the West Highland Way. This part of Scotland is wild, open wilderness with nobody around for miles. Winter in this area is glorisously free of tourists and their traffic.

Maybe Lochaber MCC could be the people to contact initially?

I'll try and scan it in and post some pics.

Nice roads

And of course the Scottish Six Day Trial wends its way on presumably legal roads. ?

As far as I'm aware, Scotland is criss/crossed with old "military" roads and other rights of way.
It is best to contact a local club and arrange a guide if possible or a meeting to mark-up your maps.
I've read in magazines that sometimes all it takes is to ask the land owners permission.
The BMF reps for the area you want may be able to point you in the right "direction".

Have a look at the above. You'll find two books there :-
1/ The Military Roads in Scotland.
2/ The Drove Roads of Scotland.
I believe that both of these types of way are legal to use. Check first!
And don't blame me if they are not!:shoot:

come to kinlochleven and i'll show you around.....

plus, still have my secret training areas on the east side.....

maybe i should start up a guided tour company?

ok, a few beers will do!

(Dave - side issue - haven't got your email add, tried and failed out of date on here.)
Coming up (almost certain) this w/e to Kinlochleven for a spot of climbing (Ben / Aonach Mor) and talk of Ice Factor Sunday before return. Are you about ? Be good to catch up - guess you'll be at work Saturday ? Intend staying at the bunkhouse / hostel whatever it is, gets good reviews.
Just me and another couple. I think I have your mobile No via Jez.
Won't be up til late Fri, but Sat eve, Sunday would be good to meet. Drop me a PM. (Just seen yours - I'll call you mid-week)
(By way, no m/c, a) its sickly, and b) need car for the gear !)
Sorry about the highjacked thread all - count us in if you get some access up there ! ;)

(PPPPPS Didn't you have a trail guide to the Pico's ? Spanish Bob was seeking guidance)
