Hi Just wondered what is normal when going off route with a 2610.
I deliberately went off route yesterday & I am sure it was trying to take me back to where I went wrong & this would have taken me a couple of miles round .
Imagine 3 paralel lines I was on the middle one it wanted me to make a right turn which was the first it came to when all the time half a mile further up there were several left turns to take me on the desired route
Wouldnt it be better if it simply brought you back on route further up your intended route if as i was doing running paralel to my downloaded route.
Hope this makes sense

If you have the "off route recalculate" box ticked, the gps will keep on recalculating a new route to your next via or waypoint as you move along the road you are on.

Sometimes the gps takes a while for it to decide that it is better to recalculate again rather than take you back to the missed junction. I think this depends a lot on the particular roads you are on at the time and the possible (or lack of) alternatives. PB

They all do that sir!

I think you'll find what is happening is that it'll try three times to get you back to your original route where you went wrong. In the pre 26xx days an SP3 would try an recalculate the whole route which could take tens of minutes if you were giong from Calais to Nice:eek:

The nice chaps at Garmin introduced the new alogarithm to keep it down to a few seconds and the 26xx seems to have the same alogarithm. It's most obvious on a motorway when she'll try to get you to do a u turn on the roundabout above the motorway (asuming it has one) for the next three junctions.

Redrocket,

Just a thought. Which version of the firmware are you running on the unit? v4.3 is the current one. This might make a difference. PB

Have you got "Avoid U-turns" set? It may have been trying to do an "easy" re-calc by turning you round.
