I have changed from a 1300GS to a 1300GSA and it suddenly dawned on me as I was taking the top box off…having cleverly coded the barrel to the bike key…I have no idea how to decode (is that a thing?) the barrel for the new key that’s arriving tomorrow.

Little help required please.

Take the base plate off ( the floor ) and you can use a pin I seem to remember to unlock one of the sliders and pull the barrel out . It was a couple of months ago when I did it , but I’m sure you’ll fathom it out .

Not done one on a top box but as a rule they all work the same way, you need to take the lock barrel out using the key that fits

Then, remove the key whilst holding the lock pins in place so they don’t become pingfucks

Now put the new key in and see which pins need to be swapped around or replaced to fit the key

I don’t think it’s as easy as that . One of sliders is there to stop the barrel coming out , that’s why you have to take the floor off. There’s about 10 screws to remove

I’m sure you’re right, there’s always a tumbler or a circlip or similar to hold the barrel in, but you generally also need to have the key in as well

Lonerider 42ltr top box:

Took the top box off the base. Turned it upside down. Turned the key to the open position and flush against the lock mount one of the sliders sits. That’s the one that holds it in place. Put pressure on that (don’t pull the key out) then push the barrel out with your finger.

That’s what I’ve just worked out.

I’m sure you’re right, there’s always a tumbler or a circlip or similar to hold the barrel in, but you generally also need to have the key in as well

I seem to remember it’s the bottom pin / slider that’s you can remove with a pin as there a small hole to push it to one side

Wafer no 8 the furthest from whey the key goes in is a lock wafer that keeps lock cylinder in place you will need the original key otherwise the remaining wafers will be permanently out like the locking wafer no 8
