Any ideas guys, I tore a ligament five weeks ago and not been out since then. Started bike ( 2005 gs1200) it cranked over slowly but engine fired up ok, but brake failure light flashing and after a run still no joy with that and also no horn, indicators or main beam no brake lights. So appart from starting Nowt!!. Charged battery up it's an odyssey two year old so it charged ok 12.9 volts and whoosh engine cranked started fine but still no indicators horn brake lights and still flashing brake failure. Any saints out there who can help as I'm miles from BM garages. Will try and go through a few ideas maybe my old vStrom wasn't so bad after all. Never had any leccy probs or owt.

No Miff, checked all the obvious ones. Also foot and hand brake micro switches appear all ok ie they click when operating levers.

Try disconnecting the battery and giving it a good overnight charge. Similar happened on my 09 did work for a week or two but turned out to be a dodgy battery in the end. New battery all fixed. Is yours still original 05 battery?

Sounds similar to what my 2005 model did when the ABS/servo module went. Have you got full braking force?

He's got a 2yr old Odyssey.

Strange fault, mind

Al

Sounds like the ZFE (central electrical unit) has a fault

I think you will be needing a GS 911 to read the faults if any are visible

Just to be clear there is an independent engine management ECU

One in the Clocks

One in the ABS Unit

But the ZFE gets signals from switches and sends signals to "things" lights horn (wipers:green gri)

I had this on a mate's bike a couple of years ago If you keep windng the starter on a bike with a low battery you put IMMENSE pressure on the electronics with voltage spikes and current surges

Easy fix was to just plug in another ZFE from another bike and everything worked You can test it this way

Moral Of Story

Do NOT try and start 1200 hexhead with a very low battery ever ever ever

Yep guys will give it till tomorrow, daughters partner has trailer as I tried out on the road but no indicators or brake warning light and very well next to no braking its not a goer to get under its own steam anywhere. tspivey what was your gremlins? The abs triangle isn't lit so it must be a canbus fault. Thanks guys for info though.

If you have someone with a 1200 near you these are plug and play bits from "same specification models and year!"

My mates and mine were only 500 apart in frame numbers and had exactly the same options but his ECU had a different part number but once swapped all his non functional stuff worked again So he bought a used part and fitted it about £150 I think

Thanks Doc I was going to take it to BM at Dalkeith as I was going to see my cousins up there, but I'm at my daughters in Bamburgh so I and spoke to an old friend and he recommended me a guy 30 mins away who can diagnose the fault!! Thanks for that info on Motorworks I will bear that in mind when hopefully I can get the fault diagnosed.

I can't remember how, but sn't there a way to reset the ECU?

Something like (but don't try it until confirmed) disconnecting the positive lead from battery and earthng it for a few seconds.

Thanks Bendy, but I might give that a little more thought. I think when I had an old k1100 and the abs was never ok I tried something like using a wire to link across something or other but it did nowt as I recall. Is it worth buds to buy a gs911 whatsit? Maybe try and borrow one from someone in locale

I keep putting off buying a GS-911. It's annoying the MBW bikes can't use motor industry standard ECU connectors and software.

Bmw Bikes do use motor industry standard software R1200`s using BMSK use ISO 14230 protocol ( KWP2000) I have wired a standard OBD11 connector into the K line for retrieving data.
I have since purchased an ICOM-A cable to OBD11 for a tenner from China. with a £6 bluetooth pro-scan you can pull up fault codes etc on a mobile phone. Very basic and nothing like the abilities of a GS911 but its out there.
I use the OBD11 interface connected to an Innovate LM2 to collect up to 16 channels of data from the BMSK whilst simultaneously logging both cylinders with wideband sensors for AFR`s.

It's like a different language. I have no idea what half of that means.
