Ohlins on my GSA!

Blimey what an improvement! Chicken strips gone already and only been out in the wet! But what can I do to protect that rear shock? The spring in particular in very exposed to everything the tyre throws at it. It does have a protective plastic shield which covers only the rod. I hate huggers and don't want one of them. But isn't there some kind of shield available for the 12 which zip-ties on to the frame? Any ideas? If so what's it look like and where might I get one?

Ah, that was your bike at MCT yesterday :D.

It was a bit of a GS day for Darren - I got my new rear shock fitted on my 1150 as well, and I was wondering who was going to own up to owning the GSA with the UKGSer sticker :thumb
 
Keith's on his hols, somewhere in Europe, on his 1200. Sadly, Darren's sold the 1150, as it was a bit heavy for a daily runner.

I'll pass on my regards though - I've got to pop back in and get the box for the Ohlins as it wouldn't fit in the topbox. :blast

Anyway, I'd better stop hijacking the thread now - oops.
 
Splash guard

I'm using the WUNDERLICH Splash/Shock Guard sold by Nippy Norman. It really keeps the shock and battery clean, less dirt on your boots too:clap. Installs in 5min with zip-ties. Recommended:thumb

I used the original rear shock protector on my rear Ohlins shock in kombination with above mentioned and it works.:thumb

Many thanks for all that lads. I'll certainly have a look at all of those.
Yes it was my GS at MTC. Darren and Keith are both top blokes and it's handy to have them so nearby. I too need to collect my boxes and old shocks from there and would be nice to meet a fellow GSer if we happen to be there at the same time.

Just had a thought, not sure what GSA you have but if it's an 08 with ESA the Wunderlich protector may not be suitable.

Hi, do you have to get both shocks done at the same time?

I'm thinking of some kind of upgrade for the bike, and can either afford the Remus headers and pipe or the Ohlins. Which would you recommend?

TBH, I'm more of a 'chuck it around single tracks' type of rider than chasing top end speed so Im probably just looking for a nudge... :)

Mine's an '07 with standard crappy Showas which is why I went for the Ohlins. The front Showa was reasonably ok and Darren suggested that I just change the rear, which I guess answers your question. I have a mate who retained the front shock on a standard GS and put Ohlins on the back and he's well pleased with the result. My view was that doing both would be better and that certainly seems to be the case having ridden the bike.
Problem with the GSA is that if you want Ohlins the only shock available for the back is an incredibly expensive unit with remote resevoir and remote pre-load adjuster! The front one's fairly standard but the rear certainly isn't! Another option is to go for standard GS Ohlins front and rear which is cheaper but you lose ride height and then need to find a standard GS centre stand to compensate. The GSA shocks are 7mm longer than the standard GS ones and lifting around a quarter of a ton those extra 7mm certainly didn't appeal! But the GSA shocks are superb. Darren said that my GSA handled like a sportsbike without the panniers and I reckon he meant it! It's that good! Go for it!
 
can you give me an idea of cost for the shocks and fitting?

that's why i bought wilbers.

had ohlins on my last GS, not disappointed with wilbers on the present one. rossi and co. can find someone else to pay for their sunday outings.
