I'm thinking of changing the stock suspension on the 1150 GSA and am caught between a set of Ohlins or Wilbers. I do more road riding than off road but do tend to go on a lot of high milage trips loaded up with camping gear as well as SWIMBO on the back... Any thoughts...:thumb

had ohlins on my 1150, very nice they were too.

got wilbers on my 12. just as nice, much cheaper :thumb2

I've had Ohlins on my 1150GSA from new (now 30K).

I love them but the price might make me consider Wilbur's now (if I had to buy new) especially as so many people say they are as good.

I don't know what the service/repair costs are for Wilbur. It may be worth finding out if that's significant too.

I have Ohlins on my 1150GSA so far 14000M and no problemos
Shadow you know my Bike and is fully loaded at all the time and the shocks feels like new so far but I just same time wish that the front shock it was much stiffer.

I Like Ohlins on my 1150GSA with a 180nM rear spring and had them on since new - bike is over 3 years old and done 20,000 miles.........no issues, but rear spring weight is crucial and this is maybe why many suffer premature early failure

I like ESA suspension on my 2008 1200GSA too:augie

I'd go Ohlins as they look so cooooollll

I agree with the looks thing, although, I think the Wilbers with the blue springs would look much better on the SE...:D

Wilbers - don't leave home without them.............. :thumb

Would you consider Hyperpro: http://www.hyperpro.com/home/index.asp

Apparently they are even best price for money than Wilbers.

Make a search in the www.advrider.com too, they do talk about it.

I have a Hyperpro on my bike. They look eternal - really!

+ 1. Got Hyperpro shocks on the 1100 and the springs on the 1200.

Great value for money and you have the choice of colour. Purple of black:thumb

Wilbers:

Give ace handling to my 1150GSA

Ohlins failed during LWD

5 years unlimited mileage full replacement guarentee

And Motorad Mike in Cardiff says they are better!

wilbers did not go lwd so you can not say they were better so saying i ordered ohlins shocks 14 weeks ago and the front shock is in the uk but the back shock is missing in action all to do with the price of steel gold air and any other thing they can think of so which ever one is on the shelf is the the best one:thedummy:thedummy:thedummy

I likey Ohlins, a well trusted well founded company with a brilliant reputation...
I have front & rear shocks...the best piece of money I have spent on my bike...:thumb

So there you have it...Utter confusion. :blast

I fitted a pair of Wilbers to a customers 1150 GSA this week. Fantastic quality, better than Ohlins I have fitted in the past, and much better value.

The main difference between the two choices (other than price/looks) is that Wilbers are built exactly to your own requirements like a 'made to measure' suit. Ohlins are not:

Tell Wilbers your riding style, weight, ride height, use of pillion/luggage etc and they will assemble the shocks with the correct spring weight, suspension travel and damping you require.

Buy the more expensive Ohlins and you may still have to spend out on new springs, alterations to the damping etc, rather like buying an 'off the peg' suit and having it re-tailored.

For this reson I bought Wilbers over Ohlins, and haven't regretted it for one moment.

For an expert opinion, phone Revs Racing and ask to speak to John Gaskell, he can advise you of all the pros and cons and the price/performance options available.

Wilbers it is ..................... :thumb

i have ohlins on my 1150gs ,one previous owner nearly new: had them for 35 thou and one rebuild ,due to blown front seal.
I use shock covers on a tour to keep the road crap off .

But if I was to buy new I would consider wp.
but have you thought of getting Maxton to sort you out with some?
they will set it up for you and your wife for touring:)

Whats wrong with the stock BMW ones??? The handling of the 1150 GS is superb out of the box??? I would spend your money on cider if I were you or a ferry ticket and some fuel:beerjug:

PS. I have an Ohlin on my HP2 because the air shock kept leaking and after 100 miles I wouldn't know the difference apart from the Ohlin weighs about 3 times as much at least - More cider required;)

AndyT:cool:

Neither!..nothing wrong with stock ones. I just had mine redone including a valve braised into the top for regassing and its as good as new... The "You cant redo the BMW shocks " isnt true as they can be re gassed etc. :thumb2
