He breaks his silence:blast

Calling Heather tomorrow as she will be back from Gambia just to get an ok from her before any planning gets put together.

Any suggestions on what I should ask.

Cheers

Serious answer this time!

I don't know of anything to ask her.......I have a milion questions about getting there, but once we are there the task is simple, handover a comedy sized cheque for as much money as possible.

I don't know if Bill or Ian have any experience of shipping stuff back to the UK from Gambia, so it might be worth asking if she has any knowledge on getting our bikes back when we are done?

Get back on and ride home via Tombuktu:thumb:D

Never shipped anything back I'm afraid but I'm sure it won't be a problem.

Don't know about Gambia but I know there are several companies who will ship back from Dakar which is only just up the road.

Have a word with the guys from James Cargo - they'll know.

Roddy has just got back to me

"For 10 bikes I suggest a 40 container by sea which you need to allow
roughly 4 - 5 weeks. That will be relatively cheap. We can do airfreight
if there is a hurry but there are limited large aircraft operating the
route so it is very expensive."

That's us delivering to warehouse in Dakar and collecting back in England

he's going to get to me with a rough price.:thumb
I'd love to ride back but 4 weeks is max door to door for me

One thing that might be worth exploring is using the same cargo handler they use if you are sending anything out. I think it is an outfit called Redwings, based near Gatwick. I took a load of scoots there for shipment. She has a lot of experience in importing items for charity to avoid paying punitive import tax at the Gambia end.

I went with Speggo to drop off the scoots and that warehouse had a right mixed bag of stuff in it:augie

anything from a broken 40 year old V10 diesel engine to baby food

Not sending anything out.

I'll talk to Heather and see if she knows of any other ways for the bikes to come back

Fil's recommendation looks very promising:thumb

I was looking at flights today as well - it could be a good idea to take the bikes to Dakar as the flight costs out of Banjul were something like 1500 whereas Dakar is more like 350!!!

If you speak to Roddy (it's his company) he's got personal experience as he rode down there and shipped from Dakar around this time last year. They're a fairly small company but are also bikers and are definitely reliable - it's worth mentioning the charity aspect, you never know ;)

When I was writing my post I orgininally wrote +40 and then changed it to 30 thinking it's fecking January it can't that hot:blast

I have so many questions rattling around my head about this trip and I keep going over the journey in my head :D I am trying to work out how I am going to convince my company to let me go away for a 3-4 weeks - my wife 'seems' fine with the idea:nenau

get your company to sponsor you be great pr for them, or else just tell your boss the wife will be on her own for 3/4 weeks :augie

Just saw you confirmed :thumb2 Nice one mate!!! I am going to broach the subject with my boss when he over in a few weeks. My wife is fine with the idea, she says she will bugger off on holiday, it is just work that might stop me.

Fingers crossed
