I seen this stuff advertised on one of the shopping channels.
It is called PROLONG. an oil additive
They put this stuff in a car engine and then drained the oil, then removed the oil filter
The car was then driven for a couple of hundred miles without suffering any ill effects
They also had that american racer guy Al Unser drive a dodge viper round a racetrack for hours without oil with the same results. He sounded quite surprised that the oil light never went out and the gauge stayed at zero.

Now, I never believe any of these claims normally, but this one sounded convincing.

its 29.95 and they also have stuff for gearboxes.

Question, does anyone else believe it and has anyone heard of this product.

Didn't you try all that with 1100 before you got the 1150....:D

Sounds complete bollocks to me. Wouldn't be on a shopping channel otherwise.

Oil not only lubricates but cools components.

Buy good quality oil and change it often. Job done. No need for any snake oils.

If these additives actually worked, then many car manufacturers would be using them, because of the claimed fuel savings.

Car companies fight for every single mile per gallon, because it is a selling point. If using an additive would add (Say) 5MPG, the marketing benefit is massive - everyone would be doing it...

If this is Teflon based, consider this: DuPont, who patented Teflon, will not sanction Teflon-based products as an oil additive because it blocks oil filters, often before the recommended change intervals. If I can find the link, I will post the technical report on this. BEWARE!!!!!

Follow good engineering practice and run it in with a mineral oil for at least 10,000 miles and then choose a synthetic or semi-synthetic oil for the remainder of its life.

EDIT: Bollox - just followed Mikebelch's link and have seen the report which I was looking for. Sorry Mike!!

My only experience of oil additives was buying a Volvo (I know:D) some years ago. I immediately did a service on the car & put 'Slick 50' in the engine oil. Within 100 miles the rings went (luckily I got my money back from the dealer who sold it to me). There were flecks of black material (like flakes of paint) in the breather filter. I don't know if this was co-incidence or whether the additive caused it - but it's been enough to stop me trying it in any vehicle since......

Mike:)
