I rang SBM to check what oil they had used in my 06 1200...they told me that they use Castrol Semi syn 20/50...but soon they are changing over to 10/50 fully syn for all 1200 GS bikes.. This will happen when 10/50 is available from Castrol..

Already changed....

Not out of cheapness but availability and product spec I have already changed to Witham Oils (supply our farm....)

They do a high spec semi 15-50, and the 75w-90 gearbox oil that mathces the Castrol product....

Top service, reliable product (good enough for 'her majesty.....) and reasonable price....

I use Hein Gericke own brand fully synth 10W50 cos its good quality and cheap.

10/50 fully synthetic currently made by Silkolene:)

The recommended oil for the 1200 boxer is Castrol Activeo which is mineral based, especially for lower mileage bikes as the boxer engines take a while to fully bed in, even then I wouldn't change. Good deals to be had on here from racelubricants...search the bargain forum for a code:thumb2

BMW dont 'recommned' A product. They recommend oil grades and temp ranges for those grades. They also recommend that you use mineral only oil for the break in period which is no bad thing but as to it 'having' to be Castrol.....

Sorry but that is missleading.
