Which oil brand and type (mineral, semi-synthetic, synthetic?)? Spell it out for me!

Patrick. :nenau

Good quality mineral (dino) oil 'till the engine's well and trully run in - say 18000 miles. Then a lot of peepes go on to semi synth or synth.

For myself I'm sticking to dino oil and changing more reguarly as required.

A good oil available in 20/50 is Castrol GP (dino) and GPS (semi).

However I use the cheap non branded stuff from my local auto-factors.

Is that the stuff that I can see in the little glass window that my dealer changes every 3000 miles.... :nenau

Have they changed this warning light then? My 2004 bike had only an oil pressure warning light ie oil can graphic plus warning triangle equals low or no oil pressure p113 of the owners manual. I can find no other low level warning light in the manual and no longer have the bike to check on that.

So is this something changed on later bikes?

AFAIK the GS can now have the "on-board computer" thingy that tells you if it's freezing, fuel consumption, miles remaining in the tank etc etc and it's this bit that tells you if the oil level is low.

Just checked the BM site it's called "on board computer with oil level warning" at £115.
