Anyone know if the twin cam has a slightly different oil cooler?

Reyno has had a couple of problems with grille fitting on 2010 bikes.... it appears that instead of the fins being 'recessed' from the cooler frame they are flush...

Trying to work out whether this has first happened on twin cam bikes or whether on earlier ones...

Any one in the know?? :thumb

Also anyone know when the first twin cam GS was produced :beerjug:

Hi, I can confirm that my 2010 gs has the core tubes and fins flush with the surround. I had to return my Reyno cooler grille as the rear retaining braces were making contact with the core. I understand the manufacturer has now looked at another 2010 bike and found the same issue that I've had and is working on a new model.
:)

Thanks for the reply.... I think its just the twin cam that's different... just need to confirm it, and that none of the single cam bikes have the different cooler fitted .;)

I might be able to check with the BMW dealer tomorrow, if the twin cam engine produces more power it makes sense that it has a slightly larger oil cooler I suppose.
Bit new to this GS lark and the forum Is Reyno the same Reyno that supplies Nippy Norman?

Thanks for that... yes Reyno is on here, and supplies Nippy Norman ... he's already checked a 2011 bike and that indeed has flush fins.... the issue of confirming which models need amended design is at the forefront ;)

Reyno came to my house last year, took measurements of my 2010 twin cam GSA and fitted an oil cooler guard.

No problems so far in c8k miles

That's good Mike, and bad at the same time.... is it the twin cam, and are the fins on the oil cooler recessed?

;)

Honestly don't know about the fins....can't see them due to the Reyno grill, but it is a 2010 twin cam.

I contacted my local BMW dealer this morning and the 2010 1200GS/Adventure Twin Cam have an Different oil cooler to the 2009 model.
Hope this helps.

if its any help I just checked my march 2009 and the fins are recessed. I guess you need someone with an SE to chip in now.

Hi Guy's, thanks for the feedback.
Thank's Bryn for helping with the research again.
Mike R, ah yes could not remember if yours was the Twin Cam or not:blast, thanks again for providing the 'Test Rig'
So why are we now hitting a problem?
On some the Beak is low and stops the bottom mounting bolts going through the holes in the Grille, but the main problem is the cooler is now flush front & back and the Grille rear mounting brackets need to be spaced off the cooler tubes.
I will post a pic Weds evening showing the guilty cooler for anyone who can help with the date change:thumb2.

Cheers

Reyno

Here is the Oil Cooler causing the problem, anyone know when this came into production?

Hi all.

I bought a Reyno oil cooler guard for my 2010 model.

When I tried to fit it I thought it would interfere with the "beak".

However, I also have Hid50 Kit fitted that locates behind the oil cooler. This moves it forward by the thickness of the mounting bracket.

I was more concerned that the oil cooler guard would damage to paint on
the beak so I didn't fit it. (For sale if anyone wants it. One of the foam pads missing, £15 posted. It's a second but I am can't see why).

Sorry, Not trying to hijack this thread.

I didn't even think of a problem with the "fins".

Just my 5p's worth.

Pete.

I noticed on my 2010 GSA how close the oil cooler was to the beak, almost touching.

I gave the dealer a new Rugged Roads one to fit from new.....that went on ok, and 7,000 miles later there's no damage on the beak. :thumb2
