does this look like the gearbox oil leaks we have all been discussing, or does it look like its just coming from behind where the clutch actuator (highlighted white) is bolted on with the two bolts (highlighted black).

wiped it up a few months ago, but only done several hundred miles....it hasnt been dripping, but as you see, everything is wet with oil.

any advice will be greatly appreciated...and whether its a warranty item, or would it be easy for me to do myself (bike still under used bike warranty via BMW)

have just spoke with CW, he saw the pic, says it needs doing, so booked in for 22nd...he asked if the clutch was slipping...which it isnt at the mo...its a couple of hrs for the seal to be replaced, and hopefully it wont need any more doing to it, or its another days job for the rest of the work he says....so good result really.

have to say, never had a problem with CW or SPC (R.I.P.) as far as warranty work was concerned, not that i was expecting one...if its under warranty, its under warranty :D

This leak looks from a diffferent place to the 'normal' 1200gs gearbox leak. The usual leak is from the junction of the gearbox and engine block right under the bike just above the Cat. - without looking at mine yours appears much higher, just below the battery. Got mine done under warranty - I believe thay have to take the back of the bike off so a big job although the leaking seal itself must have only cost pennies.

You look to have a leaking oil seal on the rear of the gearbox input shaft. The seal is underneath the clutch slave cylinder on your picture. The clutch operating (push) rod goes down the centre of the hollow input shaft to operate the clutch (surprise suprise!). Its a biggish job as the gearbox has to come out, and because of this they may as well change the front input shaft oil seal as well while they are at as it costs pennies - I belive this front seal failing is the cause of the 'usual' gearbox leak mentioned in your first post.
