I've been trying to trace an oil leak on the LHS of the bike (R1100), and appear to have tracked it back to the joint between the Left Hand Cylinder and the engine block (for want of a better word).

I understand that this joint is fixed with a liquid gasket, not a rubber/paper type gasket. Now I've read the thread on the changing a cylinder head gasket and am thinking that I may give us a go, what are the next steps to remove the rest of the cylinder.

Also what is the best liquid gasket to use when I attempt this?

Before I get a chance to do this, is there anything i could use to gum it up from the outside as a temp fix to stop it leaking..

I've never removed a cylinder on a BMW but before you dive in with spanners are you sure it's not coming from the oil pressure switch (a common LHS leak point on older 1100's) or the head gasket (also a known leak point on bikes with the original head gaskets)?

If it definitely is the base joint, I'd try a retorque first...
