Oil light not lighting at ignition

Hi

Sorry to ask a really dumb question but I have no owners manual to check.

I have a R1100 GS with 33,000 miles on clock. Recently, the oil pressure light has started to work intermittently when I turn the ignition on BUT before I start the engine.

It used to always come on with the battery light and go out immediately the engine was started but now it doesn't come on at all for about half of the times I start up.

It doesn't light up while the engine is on so I don't think it is a pressure problem and the bike has been regularly serviced with no apparent problems.

Nay ideas?

Thanks.

the little bit hard way:

disconnect the wire at the sender/switch & check to see if there's an earth on the terminal with engine off. earth should go as engine starts. this will confirm a faulty sender.

the easy way:

fit a new switch.

if the switch is fine, it will be a time to start looking further afield.

it will be the switch.
