Oil Pressure light again

A different problem, kinda. After a deepish water crossing* my oil pressure light was glowing. I remembered reading that after an immersion the switch will short and the light will come on, but was surprised at how long it stayed illuminated. Stopping to fill up with petrol extinguished the light for a while, and then stopping again turned it off for a bit, again. After another ten or so miles I stopped again, engine off, and waited to allow the switch to really dry, and after driving off the light stayed off till I reached home, 15 miles or so further.

All this time I'm thinking " it's just the water, it must be" but I'd like to consult the collective wisdom to this place to confirm:
1) a deep water crossong will cause the oil pressure light to illuminate.
2) It stays lit for ages.
3) Oil pressure is or isn't, it doesn't come and go during a ride but stays constant and if the light really IS your oil pressure then your engine's screwed pretty quickly.

*Good Easter ford in Essex (you know where to look!), it's terrific!

Thanks in Advance

1) yes.

2) yep, it starts getting worrying but it does.

3) Almost certainly......and especially after you've already associated the light with water......

Last time my light came on was on a ford ride up in Leicestershire- it went off the next day on the M25 on the way home IIRC :D

Chill and relax, it's all ok....but take a peek in your level window for reassurance.....if pressure problems had been caused by water, it's probably be milky with emulsified oil by now, and if you'd run out or the pump had seized, the levels would all be askew too.

that's EXACTLY what I was doing, all the time repeating "it's just the water, it's just the water, it's just the water"!!!

Thanks for the reassurance, I feel much better now. Mind you that could be just the bottle of Merlot I'm now outside off of, if you see what I mean!

Thanks,

-Simon
