Hi
Ive just returned from Italy and whilst waiting in line for Mount Blonc Tunnel the Oil Pressure light on my 1200 came on at tickover and would only go off if i raised the revs slightly
To that point i had traveled 1800 miles ,oil level was fine and Bike was on level ground ,It was also very hot (the day that is )
Once at lower altitude everything returned to normal
Has anyone experienced this or advise if this may lead to further problems
Bike is 56 with 12000 miles :nenau

Were you using 10w-40 oil, as this is thin and not great for high temperature days.?
BMW recommend 20w-50 but some dealers still use 10w-40

Mine did it again at Brands WSB this weekend in heavy traffic and with 20W50. Looks like I'm gonna need to change my oil pressure switch. Engine runs fine even when hot with no knocks etc, just a premature oil warning.

Your bike may have got the bends!!

At altitude any air /gas dissolved in the oil, may expand causing foaming and air at the pump thus pressure loss. Antifoaming agents can struggle at high temp low atmospheric pressure, especially in thinner oils if you're going high and hot in future maybe run 20/50!
