Wheeled the bike out today, started it up, snicked (or rather cunked) it into first and the oil warning light came on. Switched off, checked there was oil in the sight glass and tried again and the same thing happened. Turned off again, waited a bit, remembered I'd given it a thorough hose down yesterday and tried again and all was OK. Could I have had water in the oil pressure sensor wiring, not too sure where it is? Or have I got more electric gremlins?

EDIT Forgot to mention, it was parked on the side stand for the last two days, but that's not unusual for me.

Warm it up gently for a few minutes and double check the oil level :thumb

There was plenty of oil in, near the top of the glass but the pressure switch wire has no cover over the last few inches, there is insulation but the sleaving is too short so I guess water could easily have got in. Anyway the problem has now dissappearred and it did happen the first time I started it after a real good wash so I guess I was a bit too enthusiastic with the hose pipe.

These bikes are certainly a different ownership experience to the Honda (oops there I go using offensive language again :) ), check the oil, be careful with the hosepipe, take it in for a software upgrade every few months, weird ABS, sounds like a tractor; I really shouldn't like it but I do :thumb

Mine looks the same I think.
It looks as if the sleeving is to short.
Still I've never had these problems.

Strange thing was, last time when my bike was repaired the dealer forgot to reconnect the oil pressure sensor  ,
but the bike did not give a oil pressure warning light or anything..

This is a common problem after fording and river crossings. The wiring on my R1200GS is well packed with silicon grease to rpevent water ingress, but my mates unprotected 1150 wiring gave him the same fault after fording Morton river.

Thanks for the info., I'm off to pack a bit of silicon grease around it (I've got some left from the last plumbing job I did, it's used for lubricating rubber seals!)
