oil sighgt glass removal

how do you go about removing the oil sight glass( '96 1100), is it just a case of breaking it in the middle and prizing it out?,
Mine looking a bit knackered around the edges of the rubber seal and dont want to risk it popping out, ooo er

That's one way.

Or you could try making a small hole, and using a self-tapping screw to pull it out.
