Having swapped out my rider display for the spare I had in the garage my fuel gauge on my 1150 GSA (2002) will only show any tanks content when on the side stand and the temperature gauge still flicks between 2 and 6 bars. I have cleaned all the contacts on the loom with electrical contact cleaner and made sure they were dry but still no luck so am going to try and swap the oil temperature switch – the replacement comes prewired but to be honest I have no idea where it goes – its not in the repair manual and search has not resolved anything – has anyone done one of these before, any advice or tips welcome….

Tank Off and look at the alloy headstock/frame at the rightside below the handlebars

You will see the oil cooler pipe go into the block and in front of that is the Temp switch (at part 10 link)

I have found it easier to carefully clean off all crud and lift the cooler pipe off then to remove and refit the switch Check the alloy sealing ring because they start to with salt corrosion and leak shortly after

and be careful there is a spring and valve in the oil cooler housing LINK

Thanks

Hi Jaythro - really appreciate that, thanks very much, sensor is on order...now all I need to do is fix the fuel gauge when the bike is upright and I will be back to normal...
