I"ve been poking through here trying to find a definitive answer as to the best oil to use in my 1150 GS . So i ask again 10/40 or 20/50 ??? i run mine filled to the top of the sight glass although i read here some only fill to the center dot .As i have no manual i am at a loss , can someone give me a full run down on the quantity needed with a filter change please ,thanks

Hi Spen,
Everyone does it different. I use Castrol GPS 20W50 around the center dot mark on the sight glass. This is as per the manual. Get used to checking the oil on a level area. Leave on the sidestand for ten odd minutes to allow the oil to drain from the rad, then onto to center stand. ten minutes later check oil level.
Hope this helps

10/40 if its cold where you live
20/50 if its hot where you live

3.75 litres if you change the filter, 3.5 if you don't, but obviously you this as a guide and check the level marks. 1/2 litre between min and max

Been for a run for 15 -20 mins? Pop into the garage to fill the petrol tank up. Onto its main stand when refuelling, pay for the fuel, check the oil level. Easy.

20/50 unless you like riding about in the snow etc.

i have been using castrol GTX 15 / 40 Tis good for the scottish liquid sunshine you east coasters might need diffrent lube
