Thinking is never a good thing when it comes to bikes.

But I have been thinking more than I maybe should.

I was 48 in January, been riding since age 14 (which is not a redeeming feature at all)
Always wanted to just play "foot ups" but never had a dedicated bike, closest I came was an IT250 with a YZ racing kit fitted, and playing in a forest and on the farm.

How costly is it to "play" in this part of motorcycling.

I mean, average price, so average bike (advice on what to avoid will help)
How many meetings cater for this sort of riding, I am in Kent.

Any other advice , piss taking etc gratefully received.

Video of the sort of stuff that set my mind thinking.

Thanks.

have a look on ebay as there some on there for about 300 - 1000
it best to buy a bike cheap in case you get bord of it then you wont loss much if yo u sell it on

£1000 will get you a decent modern Mono.................learn the rudiments on that and then if you want a twinshock, get one then

It's catching:blast................just had another GS'er on the phone tonight, who's bought a new Sherco 290 to ride;)

Not wishing to hijack the thread, but I am just in the process of selling mine, I am going to put it in the sale bit tomorrow when I have taken some more pics.

It's a Scorpa SY250 (Yamaha engine) 2004, I bought it last year and have played on it about 5 times, but then been ill, had an op at christmas and now won't be using it. I'm after £1350. I started it on Monday and it went 4th kick (been standing since Sept)

Anyway here it is if anyone is interested :thumb2

Excellent beginner's bike - very grippy with a soft power delivery and Yam's bulletproof engine

I love trials riding. Best bit is you are usually only going a couple of mph so it doesn't hurt much when you fall off (unlike enduros...).

I'm also 48 but have been riding trials bike on and off since I was 14 when I bought a Sammy Miller radial finned Bultaco 250 Sherpa. I've had several trials bikes over the years but I'm still a crap useless trials rider.

I'm very lucky that I have my own 12acre woodland which is perfect for trials.

If anyone else wants to come and ride their trials bike in my woods in North Devon then they are very welcome.:) If there are enough tossers on here interested in trials I would be happy to run an event one weekend. Similar to Gentlemens Wee-kend but for trials bikes instead of airheads.

Anyone interested?

Timolgra has recently taken up trial riding and he's a very old man. There's hope for you yet. :augie :D:D

Ha ha, but don't forget it's only another string to the old bow just when everyone elses are falling out:P
:D

Grizz, Find your local trial club, pop down watch a couple of trials, talk to the members. You will find that there will usually be bikes for sale ranging from cheap (well used) to silly money (latest kit).

A couple of years ago I got kitted out for less than £1500, that was bike (02 GasGas TXT250) towbar and Dave Cooper rack. I even had enough change to pay my local club membership fees.

Not sure whether the Double Five are still meeting or you could try the Sidcup crew although they seem to be mostly MX at Canada Heights.

If you do find a Kent based bunch that can offer lots of practice, I could be persuaded.....

Hi everyone who has replied, just back from Birmingham where I had a job interview at 10am (first interview, if they like me, I get to do a full day assessment centre)

I will check it all out, as it seems to be something that has been on my list of things to do for a loooong time.

I doubt I would go for new kit, expensive and out of my league.

Happy with older used stuff commensurate wish my "skills" :D:D:D:D

Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that:blast The older bikes are more difficult to ride.......so consider yourself a connoisseur:ChrisKelly:augie

LOL ! (The youth did contribute well to the English language :augie )

I meant older of the new stuff, old skool like the BSA Bantam I would think will be more awkward to manage for some reason.

I just meant it would deffinitely not be shiny new kit for me, and I would want to get to know the game a bit as well.

Bit like buying a surfboard in the middle of the Sahara, chances are you wont find too many places to use it. :D
