Old men starting trial riding ? ? ?

No shame attached mate, you were out there having a go :thumb

I wobbled and footed around to start with and didn't complete the course, my excuse is my new to me twin shock Monty. Got a bit better later but I had a good time as well.

I think we met up at Deopham a while back, what bike have you got ?

I'm not sure about Deopham, more likely Great Ellingham at a Wymondham meeting, February time.
I think.
Probably.
I was a spectator there, looking and learning.
Yamaha TY175 twinshock is my bike, bought very recently.

The noose is getting tighter and tighter

Jon came over today to discuss ways of increasing the sound proofing of his van and ways of fitting stands or fittings to use when transporting 2 bikes or up to 4 mountain bikes, while also having a bed base, and mattress in the mix somewhere.

After a cuppa, the royal tour and a natter we started looking at options......

At some point the plot was lost and Jon's Beta Rev3 came out.... just to check if my space was big enough to create a simple practice ring for the basic stuff people like me have not even considered, let alone done.

With Jon playing, I fetched the camera from the house and took a few pics.

I also threw a paving brick into the mix for him to hop over.

Ultimately he FORCED me onto his bike to embarrass myself on a few loops, and multiple dabs :D:D:D

I can now conclusively state that the space is actually more than enough for fine control practice, and that when I get to have a bike, I will spend some time down there getting knackered.

It is amazing how tiring even just 15 minutes on a bike is when you are as unfit as I am. Currently I can carry a load of railway sleepers about, but the bike got my knees and calf muscles, as well as the rest of me.

Just when we were packing the bike up, the Postal service delivered my new Nau Helmet...... very chuffed I am.

I hope this thread has helped others to gain clarity on deciding to go for a Trials bike, or not.

Ultimately it has led to me buying this 2003 Scorpa SY250

Thanks to all who helped.

Thinking is never a good thing when it comes to bikes.

But I have been thinking more than I maybe should.

I was 48 in January, been riding since age 14 (which is not a redeeming feature at all)

Hope you're still enjoying 'an old man's sport' Grizz:thumb

Remember there's many 'bikers' who spend their weekends either on a forum, kicking tyres of old bikes, riding from cafe to cafe, bolting bits of bling to their Adventure bikes, pondering their latest GPS etc.:augie

That's as well as the golfers, garden centre visitors, decorators...:rob
:D

Hi Tim,

Yes, Yes, Yes I am absolutely still enjoying it, though not riding as much as I should, due to various logistical issues etc.

However, doing my first "Trial" tonight at 5pm.

Lebowski has convinced me its a great thing to go do.

Next up we need Maverick to find himself a sub £1000 bike as well, and to start riding.

Any of you Trials bike chaps building a special I have a Beta breaking Ithink its a possible 92 ,anyway its got a gubbed engine but a nice front end upside down forks hydraulic brake etc all there ,:thumb

Just had to post the pic below on another bike forum to illustrate a point.

I am amazed that in less than 30 hours total on this bike, as I do not get to ride it every weekend or inbetween, I ride when Jon and Pete go out. I have gone from paddling, dabbing and general frustration, tense muscles and pains in places I had forgotten about, to my first few splatts over the weekend.

18th Feb, was the fist time ever on a trials bike.

Last weekend, my first log "splatt"

I know it is not as impressive as many of you guys, but it is massive progress for me, thanks to the help of guys like Pete and Jon.

And one of my previous mindblocks..... rocks.

Anyone having doubts about this side of motorcycling.... get out and do it.

Typically I use less than 3 liters of petrol on a day before I am absolutely knackered, entry to trials or riding sites range between £10-£15 making it very affordable relative to other forms of the sport.
