I think there's more to it than that.

you will need to keep the install programme for future use. so if you download - use save-as to keep the actual set-up file.

I don't know of any easy way to take an installed programme to another PC.

Does not say anywhere that it is installed. if he has downloaded it I assume OP would know that it is this(the installation file) that would be transfered.
See what the OP. says;)

Serif software are currently selling a program called PC Mover (£9.95) that you install on both PCs and by linking with an ethernet cable allows software to be transferred from one PC to the other, apparently it works on all windows versions.

sounds like a cheap way of getting mapso....no,come to think of it that would be illegal

I would like some of my programs that I have on my PC and not on my Laptop on both machines and new downloads that I pay for on both machines.Sorry for the lack of clarity.:thumb2

setup files on both pc's

Seem's to me that the simplest/easiest way is to get the setup files for the relevant programs onto both pc's and run 'em. How you do that either by downloading, copying onto memory stick, emailing em to yourself or whatever is up to you.:nenau

I suppose I must be thick, but if I bought a downloaded software program 2 years ago and no longer have the set up I don't see how I can copy the program onto my laptop.

When you bought this program, I assume you then downloaded a 'setup' file which you then ran to install it onto your laptop? If so, then do you still have that 'setup' file? If so then copy it onto a memory stick or summat and then copy that onto another pc/laptop and then run it to install on the 2nd machine.

If you don't still have the original setup file then couldn't you contact the original vendor's of the program to see if they can help?

I think you're getting confused.

Once you've installed any programme on any PC, you can then install it on another PC in the same way - and if you've paid money and got a code - you can 'usually' use it again.

If for some reason you can't do that - single install only type - then contact the people that sold it you.

You don't copy the installed directory - you re-install using the original d/l setup file - just copy that across on a stick. .

The other way is to use a remote desktop program like VNC and use your new pc to operate your old one.
