One Bike Does All.........No

I think that chrisB et al have got this one right.

I'm a firm believer of the theory that one bike won't cater for every extreme of the motorbiking spectrum (or one person's motorbiking needs).

For me there's probably a 90% bike (for me at the moment an R1150RT) and two 5% bikes (a classic - R90S - and a super/hypersports - which I don't currently have - had a ZX9R but sold it).

I don't think that any one bike could cater for all such extremes and it's unfair to criticise any one bike for not being able to do so.

One bike does all?

The Gs is not the best at anything.
A well ridden sports bike will piss all over it on anything other than a very tight twisty road.
A Fully fared touring bike will give miles better protection for long distance trips.
A dirt bike will leave the Gs wallowing on the first bit of gravel.

However the GS can do it all to a reasonable fashion.
Not so long ago I pulled off a dirt track onto a mountain road, just behind some sports bikes and had great fun following them down the pass.
If it was necessary I could then have fitted the panniers and been off for a long distance tour.

It is an amazing bike were high speed is the only limiting factor. I am not as confident of the front of the bike in very fast corners. It may be the tyres suspension or the air getting underneath the beak. This is not a huge problem to me as I have turned my back on fast bikes, the main reason being that I have periods of no self restraint where it all seems a bit like a play station.
The Gs does all that I want and keeps the mad times to just being slightly naughty.
As to peoples attitude on here were not called tosser for nothing. :D

Hey Stank, wanna compare knee sliders

Forgive me, but grinding the knee sliders proves what exactly. :nenau
I had knee sliders on some leathers once. The velco was the strongest bloody stuff I've ever come across, so they stayed on. The only time I 'got my knee' down was when I fell off on a trackday at Snetterton...

Without wanting to state the obvious, I think it "proves" that this person has the ability to chuck a lardass of a bike around at serious lean angles, and that if the rider is capable, then the bike certainly is. I can't even scrape the footpegs on mine, though it still gives me immense fun in the twisties in the Alps. I'm very good at leaning right over, but the bike seems to stay upright....

Must admit I like still having a sports bike. But if I had to restrict myself to one bike it would probably be the gs now. I didn't think it would be when I bought it a couple of years ago............. :)

I have never had a sports bike, but I think it's pretty cool that my GS will lean over to the point where the H&B cylinder head crash bar scrape the asphalt. :thumb

No, these sliders were put down on this and not 'lardass'

Brave bloke :bow

I have no desire to try and get my knee down on the GS. I bought it to stop me doing shit like this and calm be down a little. I personally, find the GS difficult to ride quick and certainly wouldn't attempt a 'scratch' on it, especially on the TKC's.........yet

I bought mine to tour on and rid me of the power ranger syndrome I was so engulfed in. Job done!

To get my power kicks I'll buy another WR or CRF and do it off road.

I've reached that age now where I'm unaffected by the 'male bravado big bike bullshit' of going out and riding with groups of nutters, poppin wheelies, scratchin and being chased home up the by-pass by the filth!

I'll stick with the 'lardass' :thumb

Have to say tho that i'm not missing it at all. And i think the RS is gonna have to go aswell. The GS does it all for me at the minute. :D

Great shot, that's some lean angle too!

Jesus, how well did those Gixxer's handle. Mine was the last of the SRAD's with fuel injection. Mine had a TRE fitted, Yoshi re-map, Yoshi RS3 can and a K&N. It seriously used to worry R1's and battered Blade's!

Seriously quick bike

Well, some more reasonable answers and some more pish.

Show me your knee sliders :D

Lets just get our cocks out and have a highest pishing contest

And Franco, I live in the IOM but I'm a Glsawegian so your swearing is cool with me , fancy bikers swearing, whatever next?

I think you'll find that most people (particularly Fanum) will say exactly the same to your face. Why not come along to one of the many meets going on and find out? Opinions is the one thing this forum is not short on!

I'm not against anyone voicing an opinion (unlike most of you, I don't take it a a personal slagging when someone questions the limitations of a machine I happen to own) but if the first thing a person said to my face - I'm an arrogant twat! Nah - I can't even see it, never happened thus far

Time to take a chill pill folks.

At the end of the day, lets not forget that we all share a common interest.....namely bikes.

Big ones, little ones, slow ones, fast ones and some that you even have to pedal, but who gives a flying feck.

Lets just keep it real ah... :thumb

Main Point - in a "to gs or not" part of a forum, lots of people from lots of other bikes will be looking for lots of pro/con type threads to help them decide on ownership so I thought I'd try to put a relevent one i n as a genuine "first impressions" type owner of a month or so.

Most people looking to buy a GS wouldn't be looking to go "scratching" on it :nenau :nenau

It's no fecking good at that. What i mean is, it's good for what it is, but it's no R1 or blade, or whatever's this months fashion bike in the knee slider world :D

Thank you!

I have not laughed so much in weeks. Makes me remember why I am so obessive about logging onto this site :D

Bill ... you are a funny man :D (remember .. not everyone rides their GSA like a C90)
