Metal Granit Gray ? (Gris granit métal)

Also, a new display system will be used (WTF means "segments display system" ? It is supposed to improve the readibility of the instruments...)

:) Have they done away with the centrestand as well?

Yep, as you can see they no longer need them.....they come fited with an anti grav device that automaticaly pulls them to vertical once the ignition's off.

Cool huh!!

Looks like no pannier brackets either, just like the cheapskate early 2004 version I bought.

Granite Grey (934) is available to order on R1200GS now, and will be built from September production.

This is the same grey as the new K1200S.

We will be adding this colour to our product range from September.

Cheers

Mmmmm....somewhat underwhelmed - maybe look better with silver side panels?

Why couldn't they bring out a proper black/gun metal grey? Everbody KNOWS that's the only colour a motorbike should be :D

I still think of the BMWs seen in my youth that were black with white pinstriping. I wish they would offer that color scheme on all of their models.

If I good remember, they started to offer other colors than black in 73 (/5 ?)
When my black r90/6 was "remade" from scratch, it was very difficult to find someone able to paint the white stripes on it. You can find easily people able to it with the help of cache, but I wanted my bike like they did in Germany, with no cache. The only one able to do it in France is an old half japanese guy named TakaHira. I saw him working on my bike. It was simply amazing. It was like if he was following an invisible ruler with his brush...
I asked him to sign my bike. :bow

To be honnest I am not too sure a black GS with white pinstriping would be that nice...

I've seen a couple of grey 12's getting PDI'd at work last week but they had the grey side panels and looked a lot better than that picture with the black ones.

Looked at them each time I passed and it grew on me by the end of the day despite appearing too monochrome at first sight - UK spec will still have pannier rails btw.

Any engine chages for '06 (p'rhaps the RT/ST tune? please, please).

Not sure how nice that would be, really. Aren't the RT and ST tuned for more top end horsepower at the expense of a little bit of low rpm power? Bikes ridden off the road are better with low end power as opposed to high end power, right? I guess it comes down to riding style, but why have a GS if you never go offroad?

You need bottom end torque and midrange punch for the road anyway, not top end, and especially in a 'trailie' like the GS. Higher RPM power and associated gearing isn't needed for everyday riding unless you live near an Autobahn or track.

My daily ride/scratch tool is a Yamaha 'Thundercat' YZF600R (it saves my GS for best), once their 600cc sportsbike until the more extreme R6 was developed to respond to the ever more sports-focussed competition. Despite having slightly less top-end than an R6, it has more bottom and midrange punch and is more real-world road friendly than the more modern 600 sportsbikes. All I've done is enhance the chassis and brakes, the engine is more than enough for the road.

It depends how you ride, but for some people, too much is never enough.....

Having had the use of an R1200RT for four days whilst my R1200GS was having a new rear subframe fitted, I can vouch for the fact that the RT tune of the engine is far superior in every respect. More low down torque, quieter mechanically, much smoother, and bags of top end power. The only disadvantage is that you are supposed to fill with 98 RON with a fall-back to 95 RON.
