Is there an online route planner like the AA or RAC one that works for Morocco
as I’m looking at were I’m thinking of going later in the year and it’s nice to have road miles and a lot quicker than working it out on the map

Thanks Bob

There's european road miles - then there's moroccan road miles :D

Depending where your going, don't assume you'll cover the same amount of miles in a day as would here.

Thanks for the feed back :thumb

That’s one of the things I have been thinking about

It will be a new country to me and I know what you mean about miles on good roads and miles on other roads we have been to the Alps a few times and some days its hard work to cover 150-200 miles
I plan to have a pretty lose plan any way
Boat to Tanger main roads 2 days to get to Marrakech
A day or 2 there having a look round then 2 or 3 days to get down to Erg Chebbi
Then back to the ferry
With luck I plan on having about 10 or 11 days in Morocco so I don’t want to plan too much and just be rushing round and not see any of it

This will be 2 up on an R100GS
What do you think ?

And how about camping in Morocco is that a no no?

Most of the post I read every one seems to be in Hotels unless they are offroading

Can I wild camp near Erg Chebbi ?

Bob

Some will tell you that camping there is a no no.

I have camped many times and the only suggestion I would make is to ensure you are well away from any habitation and out of sight if possible.
Not that you'll have anything to fear, in fact far from, it but you may tire of the hassle that 'incoming' children give you for, Dirham, bonbons, stillos etc etc.

For our trip this April we shall be doing a lot of offroading although will not be camping this time, mainly to save weight.

But do experience it at least once out in the remote places, beautiful starlit skies and great sunrises.....:)

6am, 20km east of Foum Zguid an early start to avoid the heat:thumb

Hi Bob.
If you need the details of some places to camp I can let you know of 3 that I have used that were very good. They cost me 30 D which was about £1.80 per night.
Two of the site's lock the main gates at 12pm so they are very safe ,the other is very remote and we did not see anyone else.
I have also camped wild ,Like Tim say's its hard to get a quite place in the North with out 300 Kids asking for stuff , But once your south of Midelt you can find spot's off the track to camp wild for the night, just don't make your camp to early,That way if a load of folk turn up you can get on the bike and find some where else.

If it's your first time in Morocco It may be best to cross in to Ceuta, I found Tangier a bit of a pain in the ass, Ceuta seems to offer a less hassle entry Into Morocco.
Try to get a cope of the Michelin map number 742.That covers all Morocco.
Enjoy your Trip :beerjug:

We camped 8 or 9 night in Morocco last year had no problems camp sites are very basic. If you travel the Tiz & Tes pass you can camp right at the top well worth it for the clear night skys and views early in the morning.:thumb

Thanks for the advice everyone :thumb
I wasn’t sure if I was going to take my tent with me but this has made up my mind that I will
We will probably stay in a hotel in Marrakech but camp when we are out and about

Bob, don't bother with official camp sites if you are going to get away from the tarmac and on to the piste's. As Tim says, so long as you camp out of sight of settlements you'll have no probs and some of the wild camps we have used are stuning.

Stay out of the oued's (dry river beds) and kick a few rocks before using the fresh air toilet (any scorpions that may be around will be very shy:o and will be long gone if you make a bit of noise). Apart from that I have never camped anywhere beter than Maroc, both in the mountains and the desert.
You may find your camp being invaded by kids and even the occasional inquisitive adult but, so long as you learn how to deal with them in a freindly but firm maner, it is all part of the Moroccan experience:thumb (when I say invaded that's in a curiosity kind of way not lets steal all we can kind of way:thumb2

Have a great time out there

I'll post afew pic's of some of our wild camps tomorrow

I hope to soon have a supply of CDs with around 1000 track logs of pistes in Morocco which can be imported to Mapsource then transferred to GPS:)

I'll put a thread up when they're available to get an idea of how many to get.
They'll be around £25 each:thumb
