....I took my f800gs in for it's 12k mile service today, and accidentally bought a G650X Challenge to go with it.....

1 owner, 59 plate, 8 miles on the clock when I took it on the test ride, 20 miles when I signed the paperwork

Just waiting for the low seat to arrive from der Fatherland.

We meet in the Fleece at Bradfield Combust (just south of Bury St Edmunds) from 8pm onwards. If you drop a line to Richard May (the group contact), we'll copy you in on meeting invites.

Lots!

Fit brush gaurds (stop you breaking the levers when you drop it).

Fit the gear level of an F650gs- the original is a cast? ally item and
has no give in it what so ever. If you bin the bike and the gear lever takes the brunt of it, you stand a stand of snapping the end off the selector shaft. The F series lever is made from chocolate, so no problems there!

A larger bash plate might be a good idea if your riding anywhere with rocks, as will the TT chain guide- the original is a poor excuse.

Case saver-this sits in front of the front sprocket, and stops the chain wrecking the case if it snaps and balls up.

The standard grips are pants as well, so you might want to change those to something more comfortable.

Stock tyres (metzeler sahara's) will be ok on dry hard packed ground, but as soon as the rain comes down you will want something more aggressive.

Think tht covers most of it!

Most important mod to do if you don't want to end up with a big invoice is changing the gear lever, as said either a BMW F650 or Kawasaki KX80 item will fit, and hopefully save the shaft.

Congrats of buying the gem in BMW's range.

+1 on changing the gear lever. But dont do what I did and attempt to use an allen key on the gear lever clamp bolt. I didnt look, and didnt realise it was a torx head bolt. So stripped it. Not got around to changing the lever yet as I need to grind the fekker off.

Be careful with the fork adjuster screws; they are made of cheese. Mine seized and I broke one of them using a screwdriver to turn it.

must be catching just taken my r1200r in for its 600 service and bought a 650 x country ex demo bike while i was waiting was going to get a yam xt660 for the winter but the xcountry was just to good a deal and its still got a years warranty
