Realise that but even with the lugs in it won’t refit
 
The ‘Forks’ just keep everything in line and the oil is just a lubricant, not any real part of the damping. So a little leakage is no big deal. But frustrating none the less.

Worth checking you were sent the right filter for the air box …

Weird.. if it feels like theirs resistance they're not in quite right... If you line up the filters and they're the same it'll be the feckin lid...

It’s identical to the one I removed.

The filter sits in a recess at the bottom of the housing and the top of the filter fits into a recess on the lid. Have you got everything lined up. It’s usually open the top take out the old filter giggle the new one in giggle the lid on and snug the two screws.

Sorry-missed your reply .
Like I said on another post , I removed the new air filter to trial fit the lid without it and it still wouldn’t go back on . Spend over an hour then gave up .
Have booked it in second week of October as want to get the fork seal looked at and fit new pads.
Can’t be arsed to strip fork seal again and think I’ll leave the pads to them as bound to cock it up.
It’s is annoying when simple jobs prove difficult.

Oh and if you want a real laugh then check this -did the oil change yesterday.
Last time I did an oil change on a bike was on my old R80GS, for which I bought a new drip tray to catch the old oil.
So the R80 must have less capacity as I was a tad surprised when I undid the drain plug on the 1150 and watched the drip tray fill to overflowing and keep going ,depositing probably half a litre of hot oil over my garage floor 😀

The calipers stay bolted to the forks if just changing the pads on bikes with BMW/Tokico calipers .. leave them in place and drop the pads in from the top,

I feel your pain. Mine has always been 'fiddly'. Take the tank off (Or lift it and move it forwards) and it gives a little bit more room - I don't know why but it works for me... and it's only 1 bolt...

I did exactly that . Undid tank , lifted it and moved it forward then chocked it up with a small piece of wood . Tried everything to get that fucking air filter cover on 😜
 
Looks proper tidy!
A bit of powder and paint on the 'worn' areas will lift it and I'd try putting the original shock back on and ride it, before deciding on spending wedge on new farkles. Maybe it's still ok.

I have a seat conundrum !
As seen above , my bike came with a low seat. I wanted a taller seat and also a tad more comfort so ordered a Sargent standard height seen as shown above .
Now it’s VERY comfy BUT it’s just too tall, as I’m on tip toe and not very confidence inspiring due to nerve problem in back and legs .

I had a previous 1150 GSA in about 2012 and it was totally standard and the seat height was fine .
I can’t see anywhere on the Sargent website how tall their standard seat is but I assumed it would be of similar height to an OE BMW one , but I’m sure it’s taller .

I don’t really want to use the low seat as it’s just a bit too cramped but the Sargent one is going too far the other way .

Are there any lanky gits on here that want to swap a slightly lower comfort seat for my new one, ridden twice ? (With cash adjust as appropriate)

If not I’ll try sell it and try source what I need, whatever that is .

Maybe the Sargent low is a bit taller than the BMW low

Other better option is to swap the shocks for 1150GS shocks and centre/side stands

That’ll drop the bike 2-3” and you will have a better seat to peg ratio with the Sargent normal seat

This is my GSA with 1150 GS shocks and stands, with the same Sargent seat that you have already ….Comfort uncompromised
