Open invitation.... Day jaunt to France.... Saturday 25 September

I'll reply on behalf of Wapping as he is away:

We use the "drop off" system - Wapping leads, I sweep up at the back. That way, nobody (apart from Wapping) has to be worried about the route if they don't want to be.

There will be several stops en route:

One after 45 mins or so for coffee and croissants.

(Packed) lunch stop.

Stop to look at a WW1 Cemetery

Orangina stop.

Orangina and ice cream stop.

The route is about 150 miles in total - no dashing about, just a gentle bimble in very pretty French countryside.

I have booked my train (as above) and I imagine from the other posts that there are plenty of places available.

My trip to the Schwarzwald has now changed dates and clashes with this day jaunt. So please accept my humble apologies as I will not be able to attend. It's a shame as I know what a great day out it will be.

Till the next one.:thumb2

Travel times

I've just gone to look at booking this.

The travel times shown on the Eurotunnel site are

Outbound - 07.20 and 07.50 etc.

Return - 18.20 and 18.50 etc.

What shuttle times are everyone booking??:nenau

Thanks,

Andy

i'm all booked too

We're confirmed and booked on the 7.50 outbound, 18.50 return. So - looking forward to meeting whoever turns up!

Bring on the coffee, croissants, Orangina and ice-creams. Let's hope for some fair weather!

Hello everyone.....

Just back from two weeks in the sud du France....

The jaunt is on, just in case anyone was wondering..... I haven't booked my train tickets yet.... will do so tomorrow.

Cheers,

Richard

PS I have made some changes to the outward route.

We will still stop in Bollezeele for coffee, but arrive via different road to get there.

I suggest we stop off at the Agincourt museum etc. It will still mean a packed lunch.

PPS Yes, there will be enough stops.... Three or four to be exact over the 150 miles.....

UPDATE

It has, for me at least, now got to be a one day jaunt.

=====

I have attached the route in a zipped (compressed) Mapsource file.

If I get a moment or two I will try to write out the directions in Excel, too.

======

Please fill up with a full tank of fuel, before leaving the UK. There is fuel en-route but having everyone fully loaded makes life easier for everyone.

I will be at the terminal approx. 30 minutes before the final check-in time. I hope to wait in the customer centre with a coffee before departure.

On leaving the train, we will rendezvous at the first fuel station. It is on the left about half a mile after leaving the train. This is just to make sure we are all together and that nobody has had a problem getting off the train, which is not unknown.

We will be running the 'marker / drop-off' system. We can run through it on the train for anyone who is unfamiliar with it.

I would like a volunteer or two to take ChasMill's place as the tail gunner, please.

Don't forget to bring a packed lunch.

I will PM everyone who is coming my mobile number.

Richard

Apologies Richard, false alarm as can't make the 25th now.. :blast ...but hopefully can catch up on a future run..

Best,
Rob

I had enough problems thinking about the drop-off system on the run down from St Omer to Vimy Ridge earlier in the year.

The drop-off on the wrong side of the road when you need to point with the right hand takes some careful planning - I'll stick to tail ending or bimbling along in the middle.

Roll call.

I think we are fully subscribed :thumb2

Wapping

NCPierce

Les Brenchleyhibs's (Monsieur et madame)

Les Wilburt's (Monsieur et madame)

I probably have a couple of bods coming from Essex, so that's enough.

LIST CLOSED

PS I plan to do a recce the weekend between coming back from the Dolomites and the day of our departure. Not because I am unsure of where we are going, I just want to check out:

(a) If the Agincourt museum has any cafe attached to it or nearby. I can't remember. If it does, I may well try to book us a space which will negate the need for a packed lunch etc.

(b) Where the English 'front line' was when the battle lines were drawn. I think I can find it.

If you fancy some company that weekend, I have checked and my diary is EMPTY.

I plan to have a stop over in Folkstone the night before as I is a wimp:blast

Any suggestions on a good B&B :beerjug:
