Ordered a pair of Avon trailriders last week from oponeo, they arrived Saturday so I promptly removed both wheels and went and had the new rubber fitted, gets bike out Sunday, within first 100yds felt like I was riding on a flat front tyre also had the dreaded shimmy, checked pressure and it was fine, rode about 40 miles to see it would settle down but to no avail, spoke them today, they said the would send out a replacement, then I get an email off them saying they won't issue a replacement until they receive tyre back and send off to be tested which could take up to 60 days, very poor customer service in my opinion, won't be using them again.

Was it put on the correct way. They are directional

Faulty tyre , take the wheel off and find someone with a balancing machine............ run the wheel up to speed on the machine and it if is deformed it will be easily visible.

Video the shimmy on your phone and send it to both Oponeo and Avon UK demanding a replacement and if no joy put it on YouTube with a title of 'crap avon trailrider tyres' or similar it will make you feel better.

I've had a couple of faulty car tyres in the past ........ a Michelin and a Toyo, dealers immediately fitted a new tyre at their expense and sent the faulty one off to the manufacturer

Would any mail order firm issue replacements without getting the old ones back and confirming they are faulty? I seriously doubt it or theyd be opening themselves up to be abused by people who just want to try all the different tyres for free or use them for thousands of miles, claim they're faulty and get replacements no questions asked.

It's a pain but don't think you can blame them in this scenario.

Tyre direction was right and it was balanced up spot on, I even removed wheel and put it on my own static balancer, I understand they can't give replacements out willy nilly but a one day old tyre with 40 miles on it !

After oponeo changed their mind and said the won't issue a replacement I phoned Avon uk and they said I have to go through the seller whom I don't trust to have the tyre checked !

I returned my duff Trailrider to Pneus online several weeks ago. They claim to have returned to Avon for inspection.
No response :-\

No doubt it'll come back as "no fault found"

That's not revelant. Your contract is with the vendor. Nothing to do with manufacturer. JJH

Yes. Laithwaites replaced wine I said was off based on no more than my word. Had the same service from an eBay seller who sent the wrong size pipe clips. Good service is out there, don't accept second best, vote with your feet it's the only thing bad organisations understand.

What do have wine and pipe clips have to do with tyres?!

You know of any tyre suppliers that accept returns after tyres are fitted, without validating a fault claim? I don't.
A tyre supplier would accept a return if tyre was wrong size etc. Different game if it's been fitted.

Imagine how easy that system would be to abuse if you could return part worn tyres for new ones...

Buying local is a good shout, you can return to the vendor for them to assess the tyre.

The lesson I've learned is buy from a local tyre supplier who you can get cross with in person if there are any problems.
For me, it's not worth the faff (and potential grief as highlighted above) in order to save a few quid.

For some of us the money matters, particularly if your doing higher mileages, Im munching through 3 sets a year and the saving equates to a pair of tyres you see.

But surely it's a non-existent saving if you have a problem, & get little, or no, help from your distant retailer ?

I've had no problems with Tyre Leader or M & P though others have not been so lucky. It seems to me that tyres are a headache however you buy them.

I go through about 6 or 7 pairs per year across my road bikes alone.
I save a fortune doing them myself; do a better job; don't have to run around to a fitter; can swop between bikes if needed, etc.
I wouldn't let a "professional fitter" anywhere near my wheels!

If you have to mail them back, then UK or mainland Europe makes no difference!
I've had one faulty tyre ever; about 60ish good ones.
