Charging through socket

I too had concerns about charging the battery across the battery, had read some of the replies on the forum and found them mostly inconclusive about charging the battery using the charging socket, i gave in and bought the expensive Beemer charger, no problems using charging socket, plug and play, just remember to switch ignition on and off and plug charger in with in fifteen minutes, no hassle with removing side cover and fitting leads, easy peasy.

I just picked up my new bike today and the dealer pointed out it has a cable already attached which I can connect the std optimate cable directly to' I checked if it had to be a canbus optimate and was told no, when I checked it has the twin socket which connects direct to optimate, so easy for me on 2014 model

The canbus was designed by clever folks and it's reliable. The Optimate charger was designed by clever folks and it's reliable.

But they were not the same people so it's a big ask to be sure the Optimate will be 100% reliable with the accessory socket.

The least cost option is an Optimate connected direct to the battery with its supplied connector lead. Alternatively fit a Speakon PA equipment socket to the bike and make up a male connector to the Optimate inline connector.

For plug and play use the bmw charger that was presumably designed by (or at least with) the folks who designed the canbus.

It doesn't matter one fecking jot if your bike has a traditional wiring loom,a canbus system,a fibre optic system or even pieces of damp string.

It's still just a fecking battery that you are wanting to charge.

Connect directly to it and be done,for Christ's sake.

Those incapable of finding their own bike's battery and not knowing how to connect to it really shouldn't be left on their own to do fecking anything at all.

Careful tarka you'll get banned like flip did to most on this part of the site their gs's are as far removed from your outfit as it can get. They'd be better off looking at a few episodes of Star Trek to see how Scotty recharges his dilithium crystals than doing a search on google

That's the value of a great BMW franchised dealership and the personal level of service they bring. Even the most complicated things are made simple. Remember that and never complain that they rip you off for an H7 bulb, when you need one right now, in a hurry.

If you're not up to it, get the dealer or an independant to do it

You would be astonished at how incompetently some aftermarket accessories have been fitted & been bodged

Ha ha touche. Far be it for me to say anything but try spellchecker before you post because your spelling seems to detract from the intelligent aura that surrounds you lol. BTW i haven't done anything re the Sat Nav yet because its in a Pannier box in the loft and i cant be arsed to go get it. But when the time comes im sure your advice will be sought and appreciated.

Indeed. I asked some daft questions when I joined on here with my first ever BMW. But once I'd been told, I didn't then keep questioning the bods that had answered my queries.

The BMW bikes do have idiosyncrasies that are very different from Japanese bikes, but they are still just bikes..
