I know I know it's probably been mentioned on here before, but what's the best Optimate product to use for my 1200? I've heard that some aren't compatible with the CanBus system, don't know if that's true.

Other than the Optimate, what other bits do I need (such as additional cables etc.)?

I have an Optimate III which I have used on my 2005 GS and my 2010 RT with no problems at all.

I have an Optimate II ...just clip it straight to the battery by-passing the Aux socket & any potential Can problems

optimate 3 sp on mine (2011 tc) wired to battery no problems just plug it in and leave it, no extras required. You'll need a fat cross head screwdriver to get the screws on top of the battery terminals off theyre on tight imo.

Thanks guys.:thumb The Optimate4 seems to be reasonably priced. Do they do a special plug for it so that I can wire it in, with a plug coming from under the seat, so that I don't have to connect directly to the battery every time I want to put it on charge? And do they do a kit so that I can keep 2 bikes on trickle at the same time?

the ''special' optimate plug to hard wire to battery comes as standard and is a ten minute job (seat off, connect terminals, cable tie connector end of lead to frame at easy to access point etc) so its an easy job to then plug/unplug in to the charger each time required, plus you get a couple of clamps to use hook direct onto the battery so for bike B that would probably suffice if you can be bothered lifting the seat each time. Cannot trickle charge both simultaneously to my knowledge but extra optimate plugs are also supplied seperately so you could fix a lead on each bikes battery and plug the charger in as required - ive often left for a month without charge and then given a boost and has always worked.

Hi , the one you want is an Optimate 4 dual program. It connects directly through the accesory power socket under the seat and charges the battery even through the canbus system.

Don't know owt about electronics or canbus so I never even considered it when plugging my optimate in. Not sure which version it is but had no problems.

Ive got a 2010 Twin cam and have an optimate charger I used on my street triple. If I get the Tm72 lead is that the right one for the socket under the seat? Cheers

yes, thats the right lead for the power socket, however your optimate needs to be the dual program/canbus compatable one.

I've got a BMW charger that came with my 07 x/country when I bought it last year.
It appears to work fine just plugged into the underseat socket on my 1200tu.
