I've bought an Optimate 4 Dual as I have been told it's a bad idea to charge the battery on the f800GS directly via a connection on the battery terminals as apparently it can mess up the CAN-Bus system but I can't get a charge going via the CAN-bus socket only via the battery terminals.
Any ideas what's wrong?
No obvious loose connections on the CAN-Bus socket connections. is there a 'reset' switch 'somewhere?

Been using a regular optimate direct onto the battery since my 2004 1200GS was new, with no Canbus or other issues and am still on the original battery (Crosses fingers, toches wood etc)

I think you need a special BMW charger if using the accessory socket?

Apparently not. The Optimate comes with an optional extra CAN-Bus socket adapter which I purchased. Odd that I can't get the battery on charge via the CAN-Bus socket.

You have to put the Optimate 4 Dual into 'CanBus mode' according to the instructions, I've done that with mine and it charges my RT perfectly through the standard accessory socket.

I have used the Optimate wired direct with no problems for two years now. When plugging in the Optimate is your ign on or off?I would try plugging in the Optimate with ign switched to on then switch off and see if the canbus "sees" the charger and leaves the socket open.

2 points...

1. You have to put your Optimate 4 into 'Canbus mode' as mentioned above.
2. You must connect and switch on the Optimate 4 before the Canbus goes 'to sleep' - according to what I've read this is up to 15 minutes from turning off the ignition - but I always connect mine immediately after I turn the bike off and it works fine.

+1 Ignition on, turn on optimate then ignition off, had no problems

Simples!

Lesson there :RTFM!

Thanks guys....once I taught the Charger to be in 'CAN-Bus' mode it started doing what it said on the tin :)
