Oradour

The man arrested was a 19 year old SS Armoured Division soldier at the time of the attrocity....whilst his finger may have been one of many on the trigger...I think they'd be better hunting down the commanders....you'd have to be a very brave 19 year old to break ranks...

I believe Oradour sur Glanes is a place that most should visit. It's very sobering.

However, after seventy years, perhaps it's best to move on. I agree with Mr. K. The guy was just nineteen years old and obeying orders. To refuse would have probably resulted in him facing a firing squad. If, as the report states some 60 soldiers were brought to trial in the 1950s. Twenty of them were convicted but all were later released. what do they hope to achieve now?

Slightly awkward bit of history for the French to deal with as the SS unit involved came from the Alsace region and had in its ranks a number of soldiers of French extraction....

I understand that the non German SS were far more fanatical than the German SS. Time for him to pay his dues I think when you hear of the atrocities committed at Oradour-sur-Glane.
