Morning fellow bikers. I ordered a new gsa yesterday. Im slow on getting the bmw luggage. To be honest I dont like the look of it. Im looking at the bumot hard luggage. It fits in the original new gsa rear rack system. Any thought on this
? Or Is any one of your running the bumot luggage system at the moment.. ? Many thanks

Matt

I've just fitted Givi trekkers frames to my, new to me, 1300 GS as I already use them on my 1260S Multistrada.

Thumbs up here for Bumot - used on three tours this year so far. Panniers go right on the OEM racks. Plus they are slightly narrower than the BMW panniers.

Frozen grey looks good on the triple black IMO.

If you join The BMW Club (just £10 in Sept I think), you can get 10% off all Bumot from the Adv Bike Shop.

The upside of aluminium panniers is that they prevent bike damage in the event of a drop.......plus they can be hammered back into shape if dented.

I have Metal Mule panniers, which have hit the ground a couple of times, and even bounced down the road (don't ask). Still good, whereas others with plastic boxes have had to order replacement lids, etc.

Picked up my new 1300 GSA last week, and I will be going for the Bumot panniers, had them on my previous 1250 GSA very pleased with them. They are narrower than the BMW panniers, and in my opinion better value for money.

They are bigger than the bmw boxes tho I believe?? Bmw boxes 37 litres and the bumot 45 litres.. plus the bumot case have a great choice of inner bags ect.....

I have a Shad top box on mine and that’s all I need . May get the Shad expandable panniers in the future
I've fitted a Givi plate on my GS rack but do you know why the original top box mount rack moves sideways in both directions? I've never come across this before and seems a bit weird to me.
TIA

I think the movement on the mount is to help stability. Ducati also have a similar movable mount.

My idea of stability is for it not to move. Ducati one must be newer than my 2019 Multistrada as it doesn't move.
Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, it's on the newer Ducati's.
I presume they have tested the feature in wind tunnels and on the road.

A Google search says this :--
Your BMW GS's carrier rack is likely designed to have some side-to-side play, which is a normal feature to provide dynamic load compensation, improve handling by absorbing road vibrations and shocks, and prevent excessive stress on the mounting points, especially during off-road riding or when carrying uneven loads

Your Google search was more successful than mine!
The answer may be correct for road riding but who goes offroad with a weighty top box fitted?

Who with any sense does any serious off-road riding with a £23000 , 1300cc , 3 ton bike and a top box :-) .

The triumph trophy 1200 uber tourer had a top box that slid side to side way back when…
Seems that bmw have finally caught on to this for the 13gs a!

Don’t know if it’s any use the side to side movement…. But I: sure the engineers have tested it.

Same on my VFR1200F, something to do with better stability at speed.
