Hi I have looked through old threads searching on " brake hoses" and am still confused (come to think of it I often am!)

I have an 03 1150GS, servos, abs and I want to replace the hoses. I live in Austria and everything to do with bikes and cars costs silly money. I will be back un the UK for 4 weeks March/April and would like to pick up a set of suitable hoses then. I note Steptoe's comments about diferent unions etc so is it possible to be certain I am getting the right one. I can take pictures of the existing set up but don't want to take the old hoses off until I am sure I have new one to replace them.

Any advice?

Fitting them is no problem; I spent almost 30 years working on Citroen cars so the plumbing on a GS with servos and abs is very simple in comparison.

Why not just buy the banjos and some hose and plumb it yourself. It's not difficult and with your experience you'd breeze through it, that way you only need to know the banjo end types, not all of the hose lengths as well. I reckon on £25 per hose to make them as you need them.

Post your hoses to me... I'll run up the road to Hel and get a set made for you... will be cheaper than ordering online and I'll post them back to you or you can collect when you are over in march/april. Take an hour to get a set made up.

Thanks but...

Hi There

Great offer, thank you just one tiny problem-the Austrian postal system! I think they still use pack mules to get the post over the Alps. And at least 25% of the stuff we sent (before we knew better ) never arrived. Maybe they lose a few mules fromtime to time.

I have very little spare time before we come back in March as we have two Bike shows to run stands at (Munich & Utrecht) but if I can strip it down before we leave I will bring them with me. Just might take up your offer then

Thanks Again - Just what this forum should be all about. or should be.

No worries... if you get in the UK pm me and post them once you arrive... I figure if you have four days that will give us time to post them to me, hel to make them and me to get them back to you... all postage costs and lines should be no more than £80. You could even get the pink lines if you'd like! :D

Check out ebay seller mjd128. He does Goodridge hoses with stainless fittings at a competitive price. Very good to deal with :thumb2

New hoses fitted

I thought some of you might be interested in a progress report.

Got back here late Tuesday, yesterday was essential shopping (new front Tyre for the bike) so today was brake hose fitting day.
I ordered a complete set from Hel while we were in England, took two weeks to come but then they knew it was not urgent. I had taken loads of close up photos so I could be pretty sure they were the correct hoses, the bike was at that point 1,000 miles away from our English address.

Fitting the hoses and flushing through the entire system took a fraction over two hours. I have yet to refit the tank as I intend to service the bike tomorrow. Apart from that everything is back where it should be

The servo ABS system is a doddle to bleed, almost as easy as the self leveling Citroens I spent years working on.

Our insurance man will turn up with my number plate at the weekend-you hand it back for the winter here-saves some tax. Then its the call of the open road, just the local MOT equivalent in the next few weeks. Amazingly you get 3 months in which to have the test done. I do have to refit the cat. though, but only for a day!
