hi guys,

i've got an OEM showa shock for my 1150gsa that i want to get service, but also i want to replace the spring with a Hyperpro progressive spring i recently purchased.

hoping to get this done for no more than £80ish, does anyone have a company they could reccomend please..???

looked through a good few threads but couldn't find a company in the south east that has been reccomended, although i believe there is a company in the se london area, is this ftr..???

thanks, tully :nenau

Got mine done at ABE; was £100 plus postage. ( I kept the standard spring)

If you don't mind me asking, how much better was it after the rebuild? thinking of having the same done, not sure if i'll need new a spring or not, thanks.

I inquired about getting the shock on my 1150GS serviced but was told they can't be rebuilt  not really interested in buying a new one, and postage to UK and back is probably prohibitive (in Ireland) so may have to look for second hand one. Be interested to have it confirmed that they can be rebuilt/serviced though....

The rear shock is serviceable but I think the fronts are not. Plenty of Tossers have had their rears serviced...:thumb

MCT may be able to do it, they have modified stock suspension for me in the past.

Well worth a phone call :thumb

Mine was a lot better but I guess it depends how worn they are. I'm 92kg and it was rideable when wound up hard all the way but still skipped a bit and spun up over bumps with the power on. With the wife on the back it was really soft and wallowy with the headlight shining in the sky. Hard to ride slowly through traffic. The ABE rebuild made a huge difference. Now I ride solo with it at the standard setting and it's fine.

To Obduran;
Postage IIRC was about £15 back from ABE and something a bit less to post it over to them. So that's about £130 for me and no regrets. Worth every penny. I fitted it myself so no extra cost.

I'm in N.Ireland, but I imagine postage to ROI would be a bit more.

Cheers :thumb2 got to be better than chancing a second-hand one... I'm going to give the Suspension Man down here a call and see if he'll reconsider ;)

Just got my2000 1150GS original rear shock serviced by ABE. Was not working well before, little adjustment and poor action. Has vastly improved the shock allowing faster and smoother riding on the roads. Well worth trying first with the original shock and spring.

They do have donor shocks for 1150 GS and RT so you can ride in and they will swap them out, letting you borrow the shock while they service yours. Just thought I would mention that for any one close to them.

front shock

thanks for your update guys, i took my front shock to an Ohlins service place and they couldnt change the spring over for me cos the size of their clamp / vice was too small (or big) for the BMW front shock

they have offered to do it for me for free if i get the Hyperpro spring replacement tool from motorworks which is returnable and refundable if it is returned in good condition - ends up costing you just £10 which i think is a great idea :thumb
