Hi Guys,
I' m a bit of a numpty with regards to satnavs and computers .
Is there a Satnav out there which is suitable for green laning and may have OS mapping pre Loaded or am asking for to much??
I would like to be able to locate legal byways without having to rely on a local scout.
Thanks

Do you have an I-phone??

I have an OS map app on it, and it's great - i just buy the map areas that I need .... :thumb2

No you can down load an os map for free

Down load it in basecamp then send it to your gps

I think it's just a background map for Basecamp & it's only a 3 month free trial

"To enhance your viewing on BaseCamp, why not download a free Ordnance Survey background map for Great Britain or Eire? This will provide a useful backdrop to help you identify your preferred download region,
Please note:
Once you have activated your Birdseye Select download, you will have 3 months to use the credits before they expire"

You could be right but I've down loaded it and used it to se up tracks etc for my hand held

If you have managed to transfer your tracks to your device then you clearly have got it free but it may be for this 3 month trial.
If it expires would you then purchase it or look for an alternative?

I'm not sure as I've not had other maps other than the basic recreational map and city navigator. It's done everything I've wanted

Hi,
That Peaklife looks like it will do the job , 3.5 screen would be good for me also.
Can you still help with the chip and what would be downloaded on it.
Thanks in anticipation.
Mel

Garmin Oregon or Montana can be bought with an OS map bundled.

+1. I've had both, and if the budget will stretch to it, go for the Montana- excellent piece of kit.

Also check out the OSM mapping series as well (as an alternative to garmin). This covers most of the globe, and will quite happily work on the montana, and it's free. That said i haven't tried it for green laning, but handy if your heading overseas.

Ive had the garmin

zumo 400
zumo 550
zumo 660
montana

I have now a 62st and I like its a nice simple bit of kit

I forgot to mention if you have a base map on your GPS you can create your own maps in google earth and save them as custom maps on your device it's quite easy....so you've lots of options

Maybe worth a look at the cotswold outdoor site as the gser discount code will help ease the pain of the expense :thumby:

Could you expand a little on that....

I know you can create a route/track on Google Earth and transfer it to the Garmin 660 device, but what "maps" do GE allow you to create?

Cheers
