As someone who does a fair bit of hiking….

For years i have subscribed to OS maps (£36 a year) and used them to get about as they have always been the go-to for hiking maps.
They do offline maps as most do these days, which is handy and you can navigate with your smartwatch, making a quick glance easier.

What frustrates me is that you don't get a warning when your due to change direction and a few times i have missed a path i should have taken.
OS does tell you when your "off course" but it takes a few minutes by which time your halfway down a hill, and then have to come back up ffs.

Ive planned a route with "All Trails" then i will try "Komoot" annual subscription is the same for "All Trails" and it seems Komoot is a one off payment of £30 for lifetime world maps.

=======

I have started you a fresh thread, cutting this from your introductory post.

As someone who does a fair bit of hiking it occurred to me that we don't have a dedicated Hiking/Walking thread on our corner of the internet here on UKGSer.

I know it would be popular, as lots of people on here go camping and lots of navigation chat etc and many of certain age who like to walk for something to do or keep fit 😉

Similar to my bike riding i plan trips on apps/website and load a backpack and off i go!

Any other hikers on here?
I subscribe to OS maps, find it quite good, but the app is a bit clunky. Always have a map and compass as a backup

Agreed.

Their maps are ok for over the Pennines for me, but closer to town a lot of the public footpaths are overgrown and not accessible anymore.
even newly created routes on the OS website are not perfect, I followed a route this weekend created by Country Walking Magazine (This is the route) and it tried to take me down a fast A-Road with no footpath.
I had the dog with me too, so i had to back track and find another way.

Yup. I spend a bit of time in and around the Cotswolds, I downloaded an app called "Glos Walks", been pretty good so far. Only criticism is sometimes you can't zoom in enough when navigating, so if there are several track options, its a bit difficult to sort out which one to take :) First world problems

I have used Outdooractive for about 6 years now, and is perfect for me.
Has some really good features like Skyline which when scanned around on camera gives you names, heights and distances of what's in view.

Got a Satmap with full GB OS mapping sat in the drawer which hasn't been used since I got this app.
Seem to think I paid £500 for it, but pretty redundant the same way most market leading tech goes.

Just tried Komoot, it doesn't show the map on my watch but does on a phone.
You just get instruction and the phone in my pocket talks lol
It does buzz when a turn is coming up though, reminding yiu too look at your watch
