I've uploaded on to a sd card the free osm maps of USA as I'm doing the TAT next year, I installed the sd card in my Montana 650t they work a treat, i put the sd card in my bmw nav IV and it doesn't show the maps, not sure if I need to do something else,

It's a while since I last used OSM but from memory, you download a self-extracting executable, unzip it to the SD card and end up with a folder containing gmapprom.img or gmapprom.sup, either of which is suitable. The problem I found was that the folder on the SD card needed to be renamed to Garmin for the Garmin device to recognise the maps in it.

Found anything that works?

There's two options for down loads one is a map of USA that you can upload straight to a sd card that works fine in both Montana and garmin VI but it's just a road route map the other map is a topo map of North America that has a lot more detail, this one you need to down load then unzip it to basecamp then upload to my nav's memery card,

I think the problem I'm having is Windows 7, I've update to 10 and now things are starting to work, on my Montana anyway, I'll try the VI in a few days as I'm sick of it now.

Just a quick up date, after doing a bit of a rummage on the net I've come up with the answer to the problem I'm having, the card 32gb I use is fine on the Montana but the card is to large for the nav VI so I've put the USA on a 8gb and it works fine,
But I did find that there was a proble with Windows 7 now upgraded to 10 all working.

OK, now that you've got OSM onto a card and up and running on your device, could you list out the process, stage by stage, in easy to follow steps. I'm sure bods would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Excellent.

It's something that lots of bods want to do and / or run into problems with, so a complete step-by-step idiot's guide would be great. Do a good one and I'll sticky it.
