Our 1st R1200GS SE arrives

I still don't get it.
If you've got it sell it .Its not free trade if you won't sell to anyone .
This is a very strange way of running a bike shop.
Is it not good PR to sell to a guy abroad and spread the word on your great delership?
And who says he won't make a trip to the UK on the bike and drop in for a service once a year or order parts on the net.
Come on get global.
BTW I've always had good service at Bahnstormer.

Theres a tag line brewing here:

"Get real, get global"

As stated earlier I travel back to the UK every month and would have no problem with bringing a bike back for a service if it fits in with my plans. I do buy plenty of bits and am currently looking for quite a few replacement items including helmet, gloves, jacket & trousers. Being a lanky git the BMW clothing range fits well :thumb2

Will also want an Akrapovic 2-2 for this SE.

Quite happy to give my business to a dealer who appreciates it. It's all about having a good relationship and that is perfectly possible with a UK dealer even if 3/4 of my life is spent in Switzerland.

Hey Jettdt,
Go for the 1200, way better drive in my opinion, i am 5'6'' with a 29'' leg, and i drive a 1200 gsa, and love it, u get used to the height :)

Hi edmac,

I tried the 1200, at Bahnstormers bty, they were excellent changed seats aroung from the GSA for me and were very helpful and not pushy at all. I can't rate them highly enough.

I definatly think the 1200 will be the way I go over the 800. The only nagging doubt I have is I am getting back into motorcycling and there is no big rush so should I hang out a few months for the inevitable 1300....

......

Yes of course it is, but isn't it even better to develop a solid, loyal customer base locally and build up an image of being the place to go who will look after you ?

If they could do both, they'd be stupid not to, but I bet there are loads of people based around the S/E who are sitting back thinking positive thoughts about Bahnstormer now for their commitment to their normal customer base :)

I wouldn't be so sure of that.

What is a "normal" customer base anyway?

There is a battle going on in the market place. Has been for some time.
The sellers want to control 'their' product at all points for its whole-life.

And there is a definate trend to make vehicles less easy to have independently serviced. Reducing competition and maintaining prices/margin.
(see Right To Repair site)

If sellers are allowed to control the market, the consumer is the loser.

Do you remember those cosy golf course arrangements between the car makers? Those were the ones that meant cars and bikes were 25% + more expensive in the UK than mainland Europe.
It was the UK, not US : so no-one was jailed.

Fixed.:thumb2

Dealers are tied into this, that's why they are dealers. Same for any manufacturer of motorbikes, cars, phones, computers, tv, list is endless....

But there will always be independents who work around this and guys who come up with technological service products, re the 911

Decester: Indeed.

The US consumer has teeth, at least. Cartel members there are often
punished. Yes codes for have been released for independent mechs.
Will there "always" be independents? Not if maufactures can help it.
Anyway, didn't mean to get off the issue at hand.

The League of Gentlemen ref. made me laugh. Thanks for that!

Yep, of course, even just to throw a spanner in the cogs of the manufacturers, for oils, brakes, etc.....the more hi -tech they make the more prone they are to reliability issues and they will eventually cop that, well i hope.

I mean these machines are designed by humans, put together by humans so need humans to repair service......obviously with the help of robots but still....

I have had no dealings with Bahnstormers and have received good service form CW's.

However, I am in no doubt that Bahnstormer's made the correct business decision!

I have local customers and Ex pats and find dealing with the latter involves too much pressure with time constraints, so much so that I have really considered not doing business with those customer's living abroad.

I'll get my coat :D

Is this thread has drifted off topic?
