OUT with the GPS

Left my GPS at home when I went to Spain.

I went into a garage and saw some things call MAPS, bought one, fantastic.

They have all sorts of roads on them, and you can keep it in your pocket or bag, write on it for future reference etc;

Nothing wrong with either means of navigation but used in combination; maps for greater overview and planning, GPS for on the road navigation, you have the best of both worlds. I take both with me and don't utterly rely on one or the other.

Sold my 2610 last year as I was never using it. I know my way around the UK and was only using once or twice a year abroad when I was on holiday. Thing is with holidays it's quite nice to look at a map and get lost now and then.

Best feature with 2610 is the prompt - shortest route, each time - you find some nice roads

I use maps for planning and to make a route card also got a zumo 550 which i use for the last couple of miles if necessary a good combination IMO

Used to only use maps, then transitioned to map and GPS. Stopped carrying maps 2 years ago. I use a Zumo 660 with GPS as my primary, with a Blackberry (with built-in GPS) and pre-cached Google Earth info on a netbook in the panniers. Yes, technology fails, but the chances of all 3 giving up the ghost short of an EMP (in which case the bike will be dead anyway) is extremely slim.

Maps are great for planning, mind.
