Hi Guys, A virus attacked my PC and the result was that it would only open in the Safe Mode.I took it to the local Computer shop and they managed to get my folders back but had a whale of a time trying to get my folders from Outlook express back. I always back up my files to an External Hard-drive, but don't know how to back up my Outlook Express folders. Can you also backup programs?

Cheers Ken.

Some good info here..
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/backup/

as for files.....
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book
will contain the address book

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\%long hexno.%\Microsoft\Outlook Express
will contain the various dbx files. One for each folder within your inbox, plus newsgroups, if any.

Scan the external hard drive before you restore any files. If you did a back-up to that drive whilst the virus was active then it will probably be lurking on there waiting to infect the PC again.

I assume you have installed an up to date security programme since your recent experience? If not, search for Microsoft Security Essentials and install that: it's free.

http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx has a useful utility to use to back-up OE.
