Has anybody else noticed how slow Outlook/Hotmail is lately? Takes an age to open/send mail. All other apps are fine.

Edit: Maybe it's GCHQ tracing the traffic

since they moved from hotmail to outlook, it's been getting slower and slower.

I quite like outlook, but not at this unacceptable speed…….. sometimes it is completely unusable.

I have followed the microsoft guidelines, but to no avail…… regardless of browser (firefox, IE, Safari) or platform (windows, mac), it's got so bad that I think I need to fans a better alternative

Outlook is a hideous, bloated, monstrosity of a program. Not only that but it can't even send mail correctly to non-windows/non-outlook clients.

Mozilla Thunderbird comes well recommended.

I think they're referring to Outlook.com (what was previously Hotmail) rather than the Outlook client application. I've used the Outlook application for over ten years and although it has its quirks I would not be without it. I've tried Thunderbird but it can't compete with Outlook at the enterprise level.

Correct. Pleased it's not just me. As you say at peak times it is almost unusable. I would change but I have had my @hotmail.com email address for so long (it is actually my name which is an indication of how old it is, no numbers or xx's) it would be a major pain to get all my mates and business associates to change the address that they use when contacting me. Hopefully the problem will get sorted as they must be aware.

Get a new email account (gmail for example) and forward all your hotmail to it:

Better still, buy your own domain for around £6 per year and they you can be "[email protected]" set this up to forward to a gmail or equivalent. This means if you decide to change from gmail to outlook.com you don't even have to tell your friends because they still send to the same address, you just redirect it somewhere else.

Pretty much everything Microsoft is doing at the moment is piss poor - not sure what they are thinking really...

Thanks for the link, I will do that. Surely Microsoft will get the problem sorted one day though (I won't hold my breath). Loads of hotmail users have the same issue so at least it's not just me

The last week or so i have been swearing a great deal at f**king Outlook. As with the guy earlier, have had my hotmail account for years and don't wish to change it. But to be honest if this carries on much longer I will change. Microsoft/Outlook seem to be doing feck all about it too. And as said before it's getting slower and slower:( So I now have 50mb superfast broadband coupled up to circa1992 email:blast

Glad it's not just me experiencing the slowness, I had to give up on it at lunchtime, it was so slow

Perhaps the speed issue is their plan to get people to drop their email... Must be some cost involved maintaining so many email accounts. Does anyone ever clear their hotmail inbox regularly?
