Overfilled Engine Oil

Why is there a warning against overfilling the engine oil in the manual on an 1150GS, what is the potential problem with doing this? as I have inadvertently put slightly too much in mine. I reckon I must have just under 4 Litres in, and it completely fills the sight glass after a good run.

It can blow the oil seals I believe.

Remove and drain the oil filter. Remove the plug under the air box to drain any oil.
