Just spoken to a disgruntled Mrs Berin, who has had to sit for the bike (F800GS) to cool down after overheating in traffic, stuck on the M1 with lanes too narrow to filter:comfort

Especially annoying after the bike just came back from NOG after dumping most of it's oil over my garage floor (cracked sump, apparently) after a new crank, big ends and balance shaft bearing after the balancer bearing welded itself to the crank and siezed the bike.

Do they all do this?

Not especially pleased with NOG. I'm fairly certain they must have cracked the sump when doing the other repairs, and then can't have checked very thoroughly as by the time it got back here the sump guard was full of oil...

I did a piste in south Morocco earlier this year (F800GS). Got caught on a technical bit (sand) for hours in 38 degree heat. Fell off a few times, stalled a few times, stuck in sand a few times... reving the nuts out of it etc. It took me 2 hours to do 10 miles. I was almost crying i was so over-heated and exhausted (had a 4x4 support vehicle following me just in case), but i did it (without 4x4 help).

The bike never faltered, just kept on working. :)

Hola ..

I had a similar problem - when I spoke to Darren at Vines he suggested it might be an air-lock in the cooling system ...

Here's his reply to me...

Greg
I suspect that there may be an air lock within the cooling system these are a pain in the bum to bleed and as your bike has had a new rad it may be that if you take the rad cap off when its cold and top up if required then leave bike on the side stand and carefully undo the bleed screw on the right hand side of the engine at the top(on the water pump) let any air escape and top up the rad, try and use the correct coolant mix for topping up it needs to mixed 50/50 and the be free from nitrate ideally if you can get some from your local BMW dealer Car or bike as we use the same Anti-freeze. If this fails Greg then my suggestion is bring the bike back here and we will sort it out for you or pop into CW and they will have a look for you.

Many thanks

I did this and it solved my problem .... then the nice chaps at CW fitted a new top rad hose for me anyway under warranty, but the problem never recurred..

HTH

Greg
