Overheating !!!

So my 2008 F800GS has started doing some strange things. Intermittently it has started showing the red warning light & the temperature gauge goes up & down rapidly. It has happened twice now but goes away after say 15mins. I’ve topped up the coolant.

I’m just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?

Potentially sounds like either the thermostat might be going wrong, and/or you have air in the system.

I'd start with the easy job of bleeding the system, and making sure its clear. Then check the Thermostat is working.

Check your cooling fan is running and not seized.

I had that symptom once in a car. It was low coolant allowing big air blocks into the system.
